Pellegatti expresses need for calm in Milan’s mercato: “Are others moving?”

By Ben Dixon -

Whilst the mercato has been slow so far, this is not due to AC Milan, but rather the ongoing international tournaments, and although it may be frustrating, Carlo Pellegatti has expressed the need for calm around the club.

We can dream that Paulo Fonseca had his whole team available from the early stages of pre-season, but with the European Championship and the Copa America, it is unreasonable to think that that would be the case.

Nevertheless, even if players are set to have a mini-break after their time at their respective tournaments, the club are still in a great position with internal and external players.

Of course, giving Fonseca as long as possible with every player would be fantastic for the upcoming season, but rest, both physical and mental, must also be given, otherwise, players struggle.

With no senior signings made yet, Pellegatti spoke to Radio 24 about Milan’s mercato, and he offered his verdict on the striker debacle – his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Fonseca has made it clear that a striker will arrive and I think it’s Morata. I want three, though. So many games are played in January, you can’t afford to put Okafor adapted in the middle if you have Jovic or Morata out. I’m not interested in having the great champions at the gathering, I’m interested in having them on 17 August. Of course you have to have them.

“If in a month’s time we’re still here saying that it’s no good. Are the others moving? But the others who? Juventus took Douglas Luiz and that’s it. Inter had already taken them before and then took Sommer’s deputy. Roma? Napoli? Milan are moving. If we get Morata tomorrow we’re already one for one? They [Napoli] got Conte? And we got Fonseca.”

  1. Lol that’s a naive comment without doing any research first. Juve got Motta who could be the next big coach, De Grigorio, Thuram and Luis who is a 70 mil rated midfielder and they paid aroud 25 mil plus 2 players. Inter got Zielinski who is a good midfielder and we should have tried to get him, and Tharemi and they will get more player but let’s remember they renew their best players and we haven’t renew Theo or Mike. Roma and Atalanta got 1 new player already so that’s not true, except Napoli we are the only team who are not moving. Zlatan is doing videos for kids with Ishowspeed and Moncanda is trying to get his french buddies to Milan. I hope I m wrong and they will bring Morata, Pavlovic , Fofana and a good RB (not Royal)

  2. I’m not worried. If they were able to bring in 10 last summer. They will surely figure out a way to bring in 5 targeted signings this summer.

I’m more interested in how the renewals go.

    1. ACM not worried?
Milan did bring in 10, but 10 second grade players that finished well behind Inter and were smashed by them twice ACM.
They signed 10 and No trophies and kicked out of CL first round to rub salt into the wounds, but management were happy along with Pioli?
Pelligatti should keep quite because he will make more sense. Pelligatti always talks crape talks like a loser for the great club Milan!
They still have not signed anyone and it’s all talk.
Remember this Pelli Milan management have signed No one while our rivals have made major signings in the climate of Euro championships which you have excused them for. Your words bite you back in the ass Pelli!
To catch Inter Juve and the rest Milan will need God’s help!

      1. The other side of this is Milan brought in 10 second grade player and finished in front of 18 clubs with only one club being better..

        Ah good old prospective

    2. They will find a way to bring 5 players but how good will these 5 players be ? We already lost Zirkzee to Manchester United after apparently talked to him for 7 monthes, even last summer we lost some of our main targets (Taremi, Thuram) and had to rely on last minute signings to fill some gaps (Jovic).
Some think Fofana is a good target and done deal, but according to various sources, we don’t want to spend more than 12-15M€ while Monaco is asking for 25M€, so how long this will drag and how will it end ?
Sure we can sign 5 players in august, but it will pretty much be leftovers and looking how Juve, Inter, Napoli have reinforced and also looking at Roma and Atalanta, a top4 (the main target of RedBird) isn’t that easy anymore.

  3. Wtf is this dude smoking? Yes the others are moving. Pretty much everyone he mentioned singed 3 players already

    1. Right, pleanty of clubs signed players that they had already wraped up and were waiting only for the transfer windows to start.

  4. i am convinced now some people here just want milan to sign someone, anyone, for the sake of signing one.
too many football manager i guess

    1. We need a ST. We need a dm. And we need left footed cb.
So no, us fans don’t want just anyone for the sake of signing. We want positions that need 2 be reinforced to be faking reinforced.

The sooner the better. Everyone knows that players that come later in the summer transfer, payersthat don’t do the summer prep have a slower start to the season. Example. Jovic and chuku last season.

  5. Can’t be using the Euros as an excuse. That’s just a lame excuse. Players get signed all the time at training camps in tournaments. Case in point, Douglas Luiz who was at the Copa signed by Juve, DeKetelare in Belgium was signed while he was in the Euros, same for Zielinski for Inter. That’s a poor excuse. Each of the top teams apart from Roma I think have signed about 3 players each, all functional to their system. That being said, I still think it’s early days. Lots of time to get things rolling
