Journalist Carlo Pellegatti has claimed that the renewal situation surrounding Hakan Calhanoglu could affect his performances on the pitch.
The Rossoneri face a tight deadline if they are to secure the renewal of the Turkey international given that his current contract expires in June 2021 so therefore in eight months time, and there has been no news from any source to suggest an agreement is near.
Calhanoglu has been very important to Stefano Pioli’s side in their post-lockdown resurgence contributing goals and assists, however it has left Milan in a difficult negotiating position as they are trying not to hand out big salaries to players as is in line with their vision for the future.
“There are thorny issues during this break for the national team and a delicate issue is that of renewals. I would like to focus, more than on the Donnarumma question, on the situation of Hakan Calhanoglu,” he began.
“The Turk, who has his contract expiring in the 2021, seems to want a very important salary. Milan’s offer should be between 3.5 and 4 million while the request of the Turkish is said to be for a contract not far from that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, therefore from about 6 and 7 million. The Gap is very important.
“How will this question be resolved? It will be a complicated negotiation full of obstacles. Milan will not go to the figure of Calhanoglu while I do not know if he will accept the Rossoneri’s offer, but he must find a team that can offer him such an important figure.
“One theme, however, is at his heart: his performance which is not optimal. Calhanoglu is a sensitive player at heart and his contractual situation could affect his performance. This is my fear.
“A thorny situation, therefore, that must be resolved because Calhanoglu at the top makes the difference. Lately he is not succeeding but for Milan it would be a more serious loss in the immediate future than in the future.”
