Penarol president confirms ‘two Italian clubs’ want striker – Milan are likely to be one of them

AC Milan are likely to be one of the two Serie A teams that are interested in signing striker Agustin Alvarez from Penarol, as their president has confirmed.

According to our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, the latest talent in South American football has entered the Rossoneri’s orbit and could soon make the jump to Europe having ended up in the sights of Paolo Maldini.

Compared by many to Luis Suarez, he is a Uruguayan striker who has been leading Penarol in goals for two seasons. In recent months, Fiorentina and Milan had a concrete interest, then the clubs had turned respectively to Piatek and Lazetic in January.

Ignacio Ruglio – the president of Penarol – spoke to Teledolce about Alvarez.

“We have already turned down a first offer of 14 million for 80% of his price tag, asking for an extra million. The race at the moment is between two Italian clubs. He will leave in June, it is a promise that we made him and we have already kept him for another year, and there were already offers in his time,” he said.

One of the two Italian clubs is very likely to be Milan as per the report, and they could sign the 20-year-old in the summer and add him to Stefano Pioli’s squad as a third striker, given the doubts over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future.

  1. Bright prospect valued around 5 mil. Last season he has scored around 10 goals in 28 appearances in Uruguay prime division.

    1. “Bright prospect valued around 5 mil.” Apparently not, since according to the above Penarol already rejected 14m for 80% of his rights. If my math is correct, this means he’s valued at least at 17.5m.
