CorSera: Pioli evaluating change in formation ahead of trip to face Lazio

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is pondering a change of formation ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to face Lazio, according to a report.

It has been a difficult start to 2023 for the Rossoneri as they have won just one of their opening five games across all competitions, that being the first game of the new year against Salernitana back on January 4.

The defensive record is particularly worrying as nine goals have been conceded across those last five matches, leading to suggestions from fans and pundits that the team are not balanced in the non-possession phase as they were.

In view of tomorrow night’s match against Lazio, Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) report that Pioli is evaluating the possibility of changing formation and moving from 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3.

The change in system alone will not be enough to get out of a difficult moment, but Milan need to recover some confidence and must stop letting in avoidable goals, so some extra protection in front of the back four may help.
