Tuttosport: Pioli must choose Tonali’s partner for Fiorentina game – the options

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli must settle on a midfield combination ahead of Saturday night’s game against Fiorentina away from home.

According to what Tuttosport (via MilanNews) are reporting this morning, Sandro Tonali is virtually guaranteed of a start in the double pivot just as he has been for the past few games, but the main question concerns who his partner will be.

Both Tommaso Pobega and Aster Vranckx are fighting for the spot alongside the Italian given that Rade Krunic has been suspended for one game after reaching the threshold of five yellow cards.

There remains a possibility that Ismael Bennacer is seen from the first minute but he has been out for a few weeks with a muscle problem and only returned to full training with the rest of the squad yesterday, so it remains more likely that he starts on the bench.

  1. It’s not good that Tonali has to play every single game every single season. he is obviously getting overworked because Bennacer is made of glass and and therefore Pioli can almost never rest Tonali! That is why he is on a downward spiral right now. Just like Theo was for awhile. Some of our star players are being asked to run too many extra miles, only because we have nobody competent to replace them. It was a big mistake to not get a proper replacement for Kessie, since we now only have Krunic who can fill in on midfield. This will almost always be for Bennacer who is a fragile player compared to Tonali…

    1. We have replacements on the bench but the coach doesn’t use them. Tonali could be subbed at 70mins in some matches to give him a much needed rest.
