AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has suggested that Theo Hernandez is an incredible player when he is concentrating following the Sassuolo match.
Speaking to Milan TV (via Milan News) after the 1-0 victory over the Neroverdi on Saturday evening, Pioli was asked about Hernandez’s performances at centre-back in recent matches.
Due to the incredible number of injured centre-backs in the squad. The French left-back has had no choice but to play as the left-sided centre-back with Fikayo Tomori and later Simon Kjaer alongside him.
As Pioli said, Hernandez showed his leadership skills by playing this role for the team but also suggested that he is not always completely concentrated on his role.
“He is a leader, if he is always concentrated, he is an incredible player. He has all the technical and physical means to play also as a central defender, he can do it well and he is doing it, surely his best game as a central defender,” Pioli said.
With Simon Kjaer now fit and Matteo Gabbia returning from his loan spell at Villarreal, Hernandez should not have to be used at centre-back again for the rest of the season and can take up his usual left-back spot.
Christian Pulisic was the hero of the day as he scored the only goal of the game, his sixth of the season which takes him to 10 goals and assists.
Talking about the impact of the American, he said: “Everyone can think and say what they want, but Chris is a great player, he’s scoring a lot and for a wide player it’s not something that can be taken for granted, and he’s a great guy, I hold on to him. I wish a happy New Year to all the fans, we have a super Curva, we are proud.”
Theo is a good player, as Pioli said physically and technically he is very ok, but tactically and the intelligence of execution, he is lacking, you can see that from his plays and runs.
Let me give you an instance , yesterday during the match in th second half, their was a point he attacked with the ball and came forward, he attempted to dribble his way forward, but was stopped by a defender, but either on his right and and particularly on his left their were 2 of his team mates we could have passed to especially on the left, who would have instantly given him a return pass ahead of the defenders, and he would be free and completely clear on goal, and none of the defenders could catch up with him, all he had to do at that point is beat the goalkeeper, sadly he tried to go through the whole defensive line on his own, this is something a good coach should try and straighten out in a player, it’s not something hidden, but sadly Pioli himself lacks imagination.
A coach or player can only do this in training. On the pitch its just the instincts, you cannot some things on pitch or neither Pioli plays a tiki taka style football.
All players do this kind of things, you can play at that level if you are so confident that these as mistakes.
Obviously Theo does some abnormal things but that is why he score some great goals and even fans who goes to stadium love these things.
He can be unsuccessful 95 times but 5times he will score goals but great goals

Please don’t take this personally, but it is hard to take anything you write about tactics seriously because none of it makes any sense.
