GdS: Pioli left impressed by Pobega – a leading role and a renewal are ready

By Oliver Fisher -

Tommaso Pobega returned to AC Milan this summer hoping to carve out a role under Stefano Pioli, and he may well get his wish.

Pobega had an excellent season on loan with Ivan Juric’s Torino during which he became a key part of their plans and was used in a number of different positions, however there were questions about what his future might hold after his loan ended.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the early impressions from preseason are good as head coach Stefano Pioli likes the player, especially for the physical qualities that he has shown.

Moreover, the paper adds that Pioli would like to offer him a prominent place and not just a role on the fringes of the squad. In addition, the club want to focus a lot on the Italy international and they are actually willing to extend his deal until 2027.

  1. In my opinion with Adli and Pobega coming in I don’t see the sense in us buying a box to box midfielder, we lost Kessie and will terminate Bakayoko which therefore means we’ve lost 2 midfielders and then Adli and Pobega have come in adding 2 therefore balancing it out

    1. It’s the experience we’re missing whereby if sources are true an 8 million signing for the next two years would sure things up or a short term loan. Our midfield with these two is very young. Bennacer would be eldest at what is he 25? Although Sanches is still young he’s already won with clubs and Portugal. The transfer fee is really good but the wage demands of 4-5 years are what make it a big investment particularly with these two coming though

      1. Good player, but experience? I don’t think we need him, we should get a defensive midfielder that can help close up the game when necesarry and that would be it.

    2. Not really! Last season we had 7 midfielders and if Bakayoko goes we get 6, since maldini is going on loan. So we need to regain that number next season and we need another midfielder. Cos next season we play every 3days

  2. Given Krunic and Adli are comfortable at 10, not to mention Ziyech too. If we get CDK then Diaz is overkill gell hardly get any gametime.

If he’s happy to be a perma backup AM RLC then faor enough but if I was him I’d go somewhere I can start 20+ league games not just get 10 mins off the bench.

It’s all hypothetical I know, after the Botman saga I shouldn’t assume we are gonna sign anyone based on tabloid rumors!

    1. Krunic comfortable at 10?

You mean only passing the ball backwards every time he gets the ball and contributing absolutely NOTHING to attacking plays qualifies as “comfortable”?

  3. Renato sanchez will be a big addition in milan midfield .He offers what none of current milan midfield can offer.Physically gifted,Fine technique with good dribilling skills.Honestly signing sanchez will give other top italian teams nightmare.M and M should make it work please.

    1. Is true, with the ball at his feet we are a dribble away from a good counter. Him beating his man and carrying the ball half the pitch, releasing Rafa…goals for everyone

  4. Just give him game time as bennacer rotation . We dont need to sign renato and pay his big salary 6m euro nett. Trust on pobega & krunic as backup for double pivot

  5. When a top solid midfielder leaves like Kessie you must replace him with another top solid midfielder. You want us to compete for top four in tge league and go ahead in champions league.. if youbwant that, in that case M&M but go all out fir Renato Sanchez. You don’t use low class or middle class players without champions league experience to replace Kessie. Come up guess!! You are bigger than this

    1. Yeah, and Kessie had years of CL experience considering he only played there the FIRST TIME last season. How can you be so delusional?

      1. I dont blame you .. you cock sucker.. which other player do you have that can replace Kessie apart from Tonali and Benaccer. Fool
