AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has suggested that Juventus are the favourites to win the Serie A title this season because they do not have any European football to contend with.
Speaking to Il Nuovo Calcio (via Milan News), the coach was asked about who is most likely to win the Serie A title this season with it looking like there will be a fight between Milan, Inter, Juventus and Napoli.
Three of those teams are currently in the Champions League, whilst Juventus have no European football to deal with due to their capital gains breaches.
That means that they have at least six fewer games to deal with in this early stage of the season and Pioli highlighted the thought and preparation that goes into having a Serie A fixture either side of a match against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United or Paris Saint-Germain.
“The tournament will be very competitive, the teams that can compete for the top positions are those there now. And not playing during the week helps. A lot,” Pioli said.
“Taking the field every three days wears you down mentally at the beginning, then during the season also on the physical level. After the break for the national teams, there was the derby, then the preparation for the match against Newcastle, then Verona… there’s a considerable expenditure of energy. In some ways, therefore, the Bianconeri are the real favourites.”
Not new from him.
But takes a lot of balls or lack of foresight given our UCL group.
I have a feeling this will be a repeat of 21-22 scudetto season. Everyone got inter as favorites for that season too but look who was victorious at the end. The difference between inter and us is that they have a ready first eleven with every player in sync, meanwhile we have a completely new midfield. The advantage we have over them is that we have a better bench than them, and this depth will be advantageous for us in the long run. Note:- Inter are currently 2-2 against Bologna at home, a good chance to take a 2 point lead for us before break.
I think we seriously need to stop losing points and qualifications against inter. In 21-22, we had a draw and a win against them, which was crucial in the title run. But every since september 22, they seem to be getting the better of us each time and pioli will just not learn how to adjust against them.
Don’t think ours is a better bench.
But for all the grief we give Pioli, he actually uses it while Inzaghi does not.

we lack in defense.1 more good defense or Pellegrino and Bartesaghi will prove a good quality.

They play not to lose. The game against Atalanta was absolutely dreadfully boring.
No creativity. No spark. No identity.
I think he’s trying to take away the pressure from us and put it on another team, which is not a bad strategy really. It’s really hard to play/win when you’re the favourite.
Probably correct but at least a little reality to make it believable. 🤣
He’s got enough players for rotation. The last thing we want is a repeat of January or getting trashed by Inter.
