Head coach Stefano Pioli has described AC Milan’s journey as a ‘growth path that goes on game by game’ as his side racked up a second consecutive win in Serie A.
Goals from Franck Kessie and Alexis Saelemaekers were enough to fire the Rossoneri to victory over Salernitana and Pioli spoke to Milan TV after the match to dissect the performance and take stock of the latest injuries worries, with MilanNews relaying his comments.
On Kjaer: “The affection, esteem and consideration we have for Simon is a gesture that we owed him. We look forward to seeing him soon, to stay at Milanello with us because he is an important player even off the pitch. We wish him a big good luck but we know he will come back stronger than before.”
On the comparison with last year: “I didn’t know we had more points than last year. But I know how many points we closed the first round and I know how many points we finished the season. Ours is a growth path that goes on game by game.
“What matters then is the end. The season among the top four is balanced, I thought there were more teams but for now it’s like this. Now we are diving into the Champions League because we have created this opportunity and we want to exploit it.”
On Pellegri: “Unfortunately he had a problem with his adductor, he had started the game well and in my opinion he would have also found the goal because of the opportunities that the team created. Let’s hope it’s not a long-term thing.”
On Krunic’s role as a false nine: “Yes I liked Krunic. However, the important thing is to have intelligent players because you have to know how to create spaces. I like it when there are no regular strikers.
“Krunic and Diaz moved well and gave no reference points to the opposing defense which was in good shape. The performance was positive even if I would have liked to have scored the third goal and finished it earlier. Pellegri’s injury and Bakayoko’s warning are the only discordant notes of today.”
