Pioli stresses that Milan must ‘play quickly’ against Roma

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has stressed the need for his team to play quickly against AS Roma on Sunday night if they are to win, a report claims.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of the game at San Siro (via Milan News), the coach was very clear about what his team needs to do in order to secure a crucial three points.

He feels that pace will be the major factor, saying: “We will have to play quickly when we have the chance. The attackers will have to pressure their defenders and understand when there is time and space to attack their line.

“The whole team will have to be compact and keep eachother close together to have an easier defensive and offensive phase.”

Milan come into the game knowing that Napoli have beaten Sampdoria and extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table back to eight points again.

Roma know that with Inter and Lazio having dropped points, they have a great chance to make further progress in the hunt for a Champions League place.

There are plenty of backup players out injured for Milan but Pioli wanted to be clear that he has plenty of options still to call upon.

“I don’t have a small bench. We are missing some people, but I have alternatives. We can also change position and attitude. I expect a fast match, I expect a lot of duels,” he said.
