Pioli urges Donnarumma to stay at Milan with pledge: “We are building a great team”

Stefano Pioli has urged Gianluigi Donnarumma to renew his contract with AC Milan and be part of the ‘great team’ that they are building.

Time is running out for the management to solve the contract saga as Donnarumma now has less than 90 days left on his current deal, making him free to sign with another club even despite the fact that almost all major sources have claimed he wishes to stay and play in the Champions League with Milan.

This morning, Tuttosport (via MilanNews) wrote that the negotiations for the extension of Donnarumma’s contract are ongoing. Milan have made their offer of €8m net per season and no other club has come forward with concrete offers, but Mino Raiola has asked for a big commission in order for his client to sign.

Pioli spoke to Sky Italia after the game about the situation regarding the future of Donnarumma, with his words transcribed by MilanNews.

“Gigio is much younger than my children, I am already a grandfather. I would recommend him to stay at Milan because we are building a great team. I call my players fighters who are not yet winning but are ready to win. Milan are a top club,” he said.
