Pioli wants more this season as he puts ball in Leao’s court: “I expect convincing evidence”

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has revealed that he expects ‘convincing evidence’ from Rafael Leao this season.

It has not been the best of starts to 2020-21 for Leao who has only just returned to Milanello to begin fitness work as he was in quarantine due to testing positive for Coronavirus.

That came on the back of a difficult first season at Milan where he struggled to make the kind of impact that his transfer fee would have suggested, but the 21-year-old did look impressive in the final few games of the season.

It represents a crucial year for Leao in terms of his development and he must make the most of working alongside a veteran presence like Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

During the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s game against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, Pioli did not stop short of putting some pressure on the former Lille star.

“He has to put his qualities on the pitch, he has great qualities, he has to play with the team and make a difference, he can do it,” he said (via MilanNews).

“Last year was his first season in a different league. I expect convincing evidence from him.”
