MN: Pioli battling against another wave of injuries – his plan for the Empoli game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has some tough choices to make in view of the game against Empoli given all the selection issues.

MilanNews reports that Ante Rebic and Divock Origi are trying to recover from their respective post-derby problems, while Davide Calabria, Theo Hernandez, Simon Kjaer, Mike Maignan and Sandro Tonali have all sustained recent issues.

The report states that for the game against Empoli, Pioli is expected to trust Fode Ballo-Touré at left-back while hoping Calabria can play right-back with Sergino Dest ready in case the Italian doesn’t make the game.

Simon Kjaer will be left to rest so Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu will be the centre-backs. Tonali should be fine for the trip to Tuscany but if precautionary measures were taken then Pobega is ready, while Rebic and Origi could get a spot on the bench.

Maignan suffered a calf injury while with the national team that should see him out for a few weeks, so Ciprian Tatarusanu is ready to step up after he was included in the Champions League squad list alongside Mirante.
