PM: ‘Absolutely not an option’ – Milan’s stance on Reijnders revealed

By Ben Dixon -

Few players impressed like Tijjani Reijnders last season, and AC Milan have already put their foot down when it comes to interest in the mercato, according to a report.

It was only the Dutchman’s first season in a ‘top’ European League last season, but at face value, you wouldn’t see it as that. Regardless of his position, the Dutchman oozed class on several occasions, and even though his position fluctuated, his importance did not.

No player played more minutes in Serie A for Milan than the Dutchman did, which shows his importance to the side and reliability, and Paulo Fonseca is building his midfield with Reijnders at the forefront of his plans.

The midfielder is seen as a ‘pillar’ of the team, and the signing of Youssouf Fofana is seen as a key to unlocking his best, where he can have attacking freedom to create, and we saw glimpses of how effective he can be in this role for the Netherlands.

With this in mind, the Rossoneri do not see the midfielder leaving the club anytime soon, and a departure this summer is ‘absolutely not an option’ unless a ridiculous offer is received, according to PianetaMilan.

This morning, PianetaMilan also reported that Juventus apparently had an interest in including him in a Chiesa deal, but other options are being looked into in that case. Additionally, AS Roma also were tempted to ask about his involvement in a deal for Tammy Abraham, but again, other options are being looked into.

  1. This populistic bullcráp about Reijnder is so freaking cringy. He has done nothing to justify the hype around him. 3 goals and 4 assists in 50 games played for Milan, while zero of each playing for Holland in this Euros.

Yes he’s an OK bit above average midfielder who looks elegant on the ball but nothing what the media are trying to make of him.

    1. Only some Milan fans and his dad are hyping him. He has quality and room for growth, but he is far from being a top player. His main issue seems to be the lack of tactical awareness, or in other words, football intelligence. He puts himself in a good position, and then he either makes a bad shooting or makes a bad decision. I think he will keep improving and settle at Milan, but will not become as good as some are claiming.

      1. Yeah that’s the problem of that Milan, there’s plenty of players with “quality and room for growth” because the management recruits this type of players instead of going for top players with known quality. Reijnders, Okafor, Musah, Chukwueze, Jovic, Loftus-Cheek, all of them have “quality and room for growth”. Until proven wrong, they’re all average players. And besides Leao who seems safe for now, our top players are all uncertain. Tonali was sold already, Théo, Mike, Tomori and Bennacer are all in the rumours.

        1. Bennacer has only had 4 assists and 5 goals combined the last 3 seasons…as Ted has pointed out. This makes him a terrible player…not even above average…they must get him away from the team…

          1. 7 goals and 5 assists in all compeitions though. Maybe hold on to him for the bench…but probably best to move on.

          2. Bennacer is absolutely a bellow average player, but your numbers are incorrect. He had 5 goals and 4 assists the last 2 seasons combined, not the last 3.
The last 3 seasons he had 7 goals and 5 assists combined. Not that those numbers are much better, but yet people in here continue to overrate him, but they wanna attack Reijnders.

          3. Bennacer has been a starter in a Scudetto winning team. Prior to his injury he was playing at a high level and fans were concerned that his 50M€ release clause was too low. He’s not an attacking midfielder so his value is not in these stats. Meanwhile Reijnders did nothing special last season and he’s bad defensively. He’s completely overrated here.

For example, Milinkovic-Savic (who was reportedly a target of the previous management) had 9 goals and 8 assists in 36 games during his last Serie A season. Gundogan (who was reportedly interested in living in Milan) had 5 goals and 9 assists last season. Milan should try to recruit that kind of top players to boost the quality of the starting eleven but somehow they’re still looking at cheap opportunities and asking for discounts on average players that no other top club is trying to recruit. The best way to beat the competition is to have no competition it seems.

      2. He will be 26 by the end of the month. So not sure how much space for development is there. He is already close to his peak and as Ted said he is a bit above average nothing special really, its just hype.

    2. Unfortunately he is currently our best midfielder (just to say about the quality of our midfield). He did look impressive in the first 2 games back in august 2023 but that’s about it. I think his passing accuracy and his elegant appearance plus the fact that he seems to be a nice, honest guy helped him.
He does have a good engine though and doesn’t seem to need to be rotated often.

  2. He stayed at AZ too long. Should have moved on sooner to play among better players, brighter lights and get better.

I like him. Sure, we all expect and want more out of him. Let’s see if Fonz can unlock him more.

  3. “Few players impressed like Tijjani Reijnders last season, ” lemme fix that for you….Few players impressed last season lol 😂. U guys need to get off his sack. Him and Musah combined couldn’t even replace the goal contributions of the person they replaced. Relatively tall but can’t jump to save his life. At fault for two goals at Euros but this site will just casually ignore that. Ranks bottom 10% in defensive actions in all of Europe last season, ranks top 70% in goal creating actions though. Smh. Scathing but reality.
Sublime passing ngl but apart from that…🤷‍♂️

    1. If you’re trying to add up the goal tally of Tonali, then you have to account for all the players his sale helped bring. Puli and RLC. And they have far outscored Sandro.

      1. No because 1. You can’t know what money was specifically allocated to which set of players from his sale. For instance, why use Puli in your example and not Chuk? I can easily for instance say that Tonali money was used on Musah, Chuk and Pellegrino and they combined couldn’t produce what Tonali did but that would be picking and choosing so instead…….2. The most sensible way is to just look at the players who replaced him for his position (CM, DM, pivot/midfield). After all if I replace a DM with a an attacked I’d expect more goals. It’s the most apt like-for-like comparison. And I have posted here before my disappointment that it took more than 2 players to replace his output for the position he played. Musah and Reinjders combined didn’t replace Tonali output. That’s not good any way u slice it. It’s only when u add in say RLC that it becomes net positive.
