With AC Milan having seemingly got a deal for Sandro Tonali over the line, some fans have speculated that it could be an indication about Ismael Bennacer’s future.
As PianetaMilan report, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have both expressed their interest in the Algerian midfielder and the latest request for information has come from Real Madrid.
This has led some to speculate that Tonali’s arrival could be one that is essentially preparation for Bennacer’s potential exit, but the report claims that the Rossoneri fully intend to keep the former Empoli man as they go all-out for a top four finish.
Bennacer joined last summer for €16m and when he signed his contract, a €50m release clause was inserted which becomes active in summer 2021.
If a €50m bid arrived and if the player wanted to leave then Milan would be powerless to stop it, though they would generate a capital gain of over €40million which is not to be underestimated.
It is an amount that would allow the balance sheet to breathe (bearing in mind Milan will enter a new Settlement Agreement with UEFA in 2021) and could boost the transfer budget available to find, for example, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s replacement.
The report concludes by stating that in theory the sale of Bennacer could take place next year and Tonali may step into that role, but it is an issue for next summer and not now.
