MN: Pobega’s numbers against Milan and the qualities he will bring next season

By Oliver Fisher -

Tommaso Pobega was given the chance to showcase his development first hand in front of the AC Milan management and leadership last night, and he certainly put in a real shift at both ends.

According to MilanNews, the 22-year-old is expected to begin the 2022-23 preseason at Milanello during which he will attempt to convince Stefano Pioli as well as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara that they should believe in him.

Even in last night’s game, Pobega showed off with a performance of great sacrifice and he was the Torino player who won the most aerial duels (5) and the one who made the most ball recoveries (7). On the other hand, he only had 38 touch and his percentage of successful passes was around 71%, showing he is very much centred around breaking play up rather than being a creative focal point.

Under Ivan Juric, Pobega has held several roles from being a pure box-to-box man, a holding midfielder in a double pivot and an attacking midfielder. While we cannot speak of a player who raises the technical level of the department, he would guarantee physicality, versatility and work in the non-possession phase.

He has already scored 4 goals in the league this season and would also be useful as an academy player for the UEFA and Serie A squad lists, so in short he could be very useful in the Rossoneri midfield from next season.

  1. That physicality and fighting spirit will be essential in trying to replace Kessie. No doubt if he’ll have Kessie’s excellent technical ability and ability to set tempo, but Franck didn’t show that for his first year or two either. Fingers crossed.

  2. We don’t need Renato . Just him or bennacer to duo with tonali in double pivot . We have krunic and adili as back up too
