Portuguese report outlines Benfica’s stance on midfielder as Milan set €30m asking price

By Oliver Fisher -

Benfica remain interested in the idea of signing Lucas Paqueta from AC Milan but there are doubts over his price tag, a report claims.

The Lisbon-based club have been linked with a move for Paqueta persistently over the last few months, with rumours even of a swap deal involving Florentino Luis.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola though, their pursuit of the Brazil international is not so simple. The 22-year-old has opened up to the possibility of leaving Milan and changing clubs in the next transfer window, but no positive signs come from Portugal.

Director Manuel Rui Costa has long admitted that he is interested in signing Paqueta, but Milan’s demands of €30million appear too high as that is the figure the Rossoneri must recoup to avoid recording a lethal loss.

It is an amount that Benfica does not consider possible at the moment, also due to the Coronavirus emergency which has contracted the budgets of a lot of clubs.

Even the €2.5million net salary the former Flamengo star earns at Milan represent an obstacle for any club in the Portuguese league. A real negotiation could only happen if it were based on other conditions.
