Romano: Premier League side maintaining contact with Milan star Leao

By Euan Burns -

Premier League side Chelsea are maintaining contact with those close to AC Milan star Rafael Leao with a view to a summer transfer, a report claims.

As has been reported by Fabrizio Romano on a CBS podcast (via Lasha Kokiashvili), Chelsea are keeping a very close eye on the developments surrounding Leao and a possible new contract with Milan.

The player and the club have been in negotiations for months but an agreement does not seem very close right now. That is keeping Chelsea and other clubs such as Real Madrid on high alert.

Chelsea’s tactic right now appears to be keeping in regular contact with those who are close to Leao and his entourage so that they are aware of any developments or changes in the player’s attitude towards his current club.

The Portuguese forward is now on holiday following his time with Portugal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

  1. I think now is the time for Milan to decide the best offer they are willing to give Leao. Give him until the end of January to make a decision. If he doesn’t renew then set a price of 80M for the summer and inform him that he will be sold. I think Leao would be content trying to defend the title and see how far he can carry Milan in the CL before leaving in the summer. No doubt 80M is enough to encourage bids. I think he’s talented enough to still get near that much even with one year on his deal. I do hope he renews though.

    1. Wait until the end of January? And then how much is he worth with a year left? No, no. Chelsea is playing the waiting game because they can, precisely to drive his price down. This is BS. Sell him ASAP. No more waiting. 80m NOW. From Chelsea, Madrid whoever. I will NOT seem him leave for 40m in the summer, or worse, choosing to “see out” his contract and leaving for free in 2024. WE’VE SEEN THIS MOVIE BEFORE.
