Pedulla: Premier League and Serie A teams set to challenge Milan for Frendrup

Morten Frendrup has been a name of interest for AC Milan in recent months, and there have been suggestions a January move could occur, but it will not be easy.

All season, Milan have been linked with adding midfield depth to their squad, given there is virtually none at present. Whilst the Rossoneri have Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yunus Musah and Ismael Bennacer, there have been regular worries about whether there is enough coverage within the ranks.

For this reason, the January mercato presents an opportunity to strengthen and it seems increasingly likely that the Diavolo will have to make the most of it.

There are two midfielders wanted by the club, but it is believed that only one will arrive in January, with another being added in the summer mercato. With the mid-season market in mind, there is a lower budget available, but this does not mean the Rossoneri will not be able to get a good player.

In fact, one of the players that they are looking at, Frendrup, is a target for several Premier League clubs, as well as a few Serie A teams – most notably Juventus, Fiorentina, and more recently Atalanta, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

A move in January is possible, but Genoa will request upwards of €20 million, which could be a difficulty for Milan.

  1. It sounds and looks like Milan actually have no real plan for the winter Mercato, all I’ve heard is that Milan are intrested in him and him but haven’t heard any real plans

    1. Yeah they will wait until Bennacer unfortunately again gets injured in late January or a bit later and then it will be too late. If the mercato is still open they will make a gamble on a very cheap midfielder from France or something that will need time to adapt to the league.

If they were a bit smart they would either get Ricci or Frendrup and add Beradi on top of it as he has shown consistent contribution in g/a pr season for the last decade minus this season as Chukwueze simply is far to inconsistent to rely on as a starter. Beradi would also contribute with experience and leadership which is in dire need in this team.

  2. RLC sale, buy him… (same price)

unfortunately, that’s all we can do, but it’s a must… Fofana and Reijnders will crash

    1. Bennacer is our second highest player at 7 mil gross pr. year according to capology so its pretty safe to say that genoa wouldn’t be able to pay his salary and I also have my doubts that Bennacer would want to downgrade to a club with lesser chance to play in Europe.
I do nevertheless think we should ship him out as he is far too much injured on such a high salary.

      1. We can just sell Bennacer to anyone willing to take and just add that money to whatever we’re willing to spend on Frendrup.
Although I don’t see that happening quite honestly.

        1. I also doubt that we would be able to sell bennacer currently but even in that scenario I would still get Frendrup or Ricci + Beradi as we really need some additions but idealy also shipping some players out at the same time.

          1. Martin take off berardi and put Denis man from Parma that guy is baller if we sell chuke and bring Dennis man then we upgrade the RW

          2. I would have chosen Orsolini personally, younger and always scores in the double digit each season, but he just recently got injured.

          3. Orsolini wouldn’t be a bad choice either as he has been performing pretty consistently in recent years. I can see that according to Transfermarkt that he is expected to return early in January so I wouldn’t oppose that either but I do favor Beradi the most who I believe offers better quality and experience at least short term and most likely will cost half of what Orsolini might end up costing. I would see us sign Beradi for the next 2.5-3.5 years considering he is 30. Shouldn’t matter much though as he probably would arrive for roughly 10 mil.

      2. The only way any team is taking Bennacer is if Milan pays at least half of his salary.
That’s what Marseille was offering in the summer.
Pay 2/3 of his salary, send him to Genoa on loan, get Frendrup and maybe Bennacer can manage not to get fat, injured and play well so another club in the summer will be willing to give Milan some money for him.

        1. I think Saudi Arabia would be the option if any is as his agent has already said that he would like to play there when his contract ends in a couple of years. Milan isn’t gonna risk up paying 12-13 mil in wages for Genoa to take him off our hands.

  3. i like bennacer but he has the same story every season gets injured in the beginning of the season till next year come back much weaker starts to play good at the end of the season and the same thing happens again i things his screws are just broken

  4. Having seen both Ricci and Frendrup recently seeing as everyone raves about both, I can’t really say I’m impressed with either 🤷‍♂️. For now I suppose

    1. Well don’t forget that they play for Genoa and Torino, hardly the teams where it’s easy to look good and no one in Genoa did anything impressive during the last game.
I haven’t followed them a lot tbh, and while this is not Hjulmand/Hojbjerg level, but both have qualities that our current midfield is missing and don’t forget that Ricci is a starter in the NT. Ricci defends well and can dictate the tempo from behind and can allow our midfielder to roam forward more freely. Frendrup has very good defensive starts overall and can allow us to allievate the pressure from our midfielder.
Don’t forget that our current defensive midfielder isn’t even a defensive midfielder.

      1. K Kool beans. I’ll have to check out more games I guess. Even with the poor teams one can tell some of the better players though. Even against us recently with Genoa…was not super impressed by Frendrup 🤷‍♂️ I’ll give it another go

  5. buy the best players of any clubs?
last time Milan do that is in MnM era, even it was relegated Empoli, the rest is gamble w/ injury players, bench-warmer, giants junk, untested youngsters, back-up & freebees
