L’Equipe: PSG targeting €80m-rated Lyon star as Milan hope for a big windfall

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could be in line for a nice windfall if Lyon decide to sell Lucas Paqueta to Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, according to a report.

Paqueta joined the Rossoneri in the winter market of the 2018-19 season and there was certainly great excitement surrounding his arrival, but it would be fair to say that his performances were nowhere near up to the level of those expected and he ended up making the move to Lyon.

Last season he managed 9 goals and 5 assists in 30 league games and this season he has 7 goals and 3 assists in 21 appearances, which shows he has very much settled in to his surroundings well.

According to what is being reported by L’Equipe (via Andrea Propato), PSG sporting director Leonardo wants to sign Paquetà for PSG but he now has a huge asking price of around €80m, especially considering they would be selling to a rival.

Milan have a 15% on future resale as per the report, which means they could collect about €12m if he did go for that amount.

  1. Didn’t someone say or just wrote an article that said Paquetta was a flop – a horrible transfer like Piatek and Higuain? LOL. Ya sure…..add him to the list of players we gave up on too early I guess…

    1. I think even Castillejo could do much better than Paqueta in League 1.
In Serie A and EPL, tall slim players don’t do well because of a lack of muscles. Probably some guys like Insigne and Diaz can play good football because of their dribbling skills and low gravity center. They can resist pushes and move the ball.
Whilst guys like Zlatan, Giroud, Vlahovic, Leao, and Sapata feel extremely comfortable, especially in attack.

  2. pioli said something very right about paqueta that he was”too brazilian” for the team and he was very right. he wasn’t suited for milan eventually and going to PSG is good for him but wasn’t good for us we need a more dynamic CAM. not someone with lazy elegance who can afford to lose the ball in crucial positions. paqueta will lose the ball quite a lot but the upside is that he creates chances a lot too.

    1. I overall agree and even though i actually liked paqueta and could see some glimpses of promise in keeping him for the future we simply couldnt afford that at the time as we needed cash to make other moves and in great need of assuarances which he couldnt offer at the time he played with us.He did also show a shitty attitude refusing to even be considered for the team at some point but people tends to forget that.
In my view Piolis milan is a bit like a roman legion formation where the collective stands above everything and if one steps out of order it will potentially cost them all.
Either way we have come a long way since he left us so AGAIN the management has shown yet another time that they actually know what they are doing.

    2. It wasn’t Pioli lol. It was Giampaolo. Pioli would have found space to use him properly. And not sure who is saying he was lazy?? Lol. Come on buddy

      1. pioli was appointed october 9th 2019 and paqueta was sold september 30th 2020 so almost a year with pioli as his coach and he wasnt exactly featured a lot from what i can recollect and when he were his performances wasnt consistently giving any indication that he desserved to be a starter at that point of time.
Cant say if he were lazy but nevertheless he did ask to not to be considered for the squad selection at some point while fit and while we actually could have used him due to a slim squad.

  3. He was in a negative and dangerous headspace here. If he stayed he could have had a complete burnout. Not everyone can handle the rossoneri pressure.
It was correct decision for everyone to get him out of this environment.
