Pulisic reflects on debut goal and explains decision to swap Chelsea for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

It could hardly have been a better Serie A debut for Christian Pulisic as he got himself on the scoresheet during AC Milan’s 2-0 win over Bologna tonight.

The American winger was Milan’s fourth signing of the summer window as he followed Ruben Loftus-Cheek in swapping west London for the north of Italy. The full background on his move was outlined by The Athletic earlier today.

His debut couldn’t have gone much better, as it was in the 21st minute that Milan doubled their advantage in emphatic fashion thanks to his strike.

Pulisic made a dart inside and played a smart one-two with his former Chelsea team-mate Giroud, receiving the ball back and hammering inside the far left post with a rocket from 20 yards.

Pulisic spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on the result and the team’s performance, with his comments relayed by MilanNews, but first he answered some questions about his decision to try a new adventure.

How do you reflect on the win?

“A fantastic start, I’m really happy to be part of this team. We did well scoring the first two goals straight away because the match was difficult and obviously I’m happy to have scored.”

Why did you choose Milan?

“Speaking with Giroud, Tomori, Loftus-Cheek… As you can see there is chemistry, Giroud gave me a great assist. Being here is the right step for my career.”

You formed an attacking trio with Giroud and Leao…

“It’s easy to play with strong players. Giroud is always in the right place to score, Leao we all know what he can do, he’s really dangerous. It’s a good attack.”

Are you looking forward to your debut at San Siro?

“The fans were fantastic away today, so I dare not imagine at home. But I’ve already seen the atmosphere at San Siro when we played Chelsea last year. It will be nice to have the fans on my side this time (laughs).”

What is your personal aim?

“We want to compete in all competitions, personally I want to keep scoring goals like tonight and help the team win titles.”

Is there already a favourite for the Scudetto?

“It’s too early to say (laughs).”

      1. LMAOOOOOO CDK had more than enough chances to play at Milan. He had one assist all season long and ended up sulking on the pitch.

There is a clear mentality difference between CDK and Pulisic. Pulisic is about actually doing the hard work.

    1. And the same cdk u are talking about in his debut match at Atlanta scored, the coach lacked the mentality to see the quality in the lad simple

        1. CDK lacked confidence last year and that was so obvious with the look on his face. The reason why, I don’t know; but every time he stepped on the field, you could just see clearly it wasn’t going to be good and the first time he got bumped and no foul call or he made a mistake, he would sulk and hang his head. Slumps are tougher to get out of for some players more than others; but I do think CDK has the talent and upside. I hope he gets his confidence back, plays well for Atalanta (except against us!) and returns to us to help us get even better.

  1. Distorted. Very distorted. The player lacked the mentality to play at Milan. Atalanta is a Conference League level team.

Pulisic has the mentality to play at Milan. CDK didn’t. If you want to cheer on Atalanta, then go ahead. But this is Milan. Not some average team
