QS: Fiorentina set sights on Milan defender but are likely to be disappointed

By Oliver Fisher -

Fiorentina have set their sights on signing Simon Kjaer from AC Milan in the current summer transfer window, according to a report.

Kjaer is ready to return after the bad knee injury he suffered last winter and while all attention at the moment is on him making a competitive return for the Rossoneri, he is also in the sights of Fiorentina according to Quotidiano Sportivo (via MilanPress).

Vincenzo Italiano wants a new centre-back and would welcome the Dane with open arms, but after seeing Alessio Romagnoli leave for Lazio on a free transfer, it is very difficult to imagine that Milan will allow another one of main leaders of the dressing room to leave, especially in the same department.

Not only that, but the former Sevilla and Atalanta defender is highly motivated to return to the field with the Milan shirt, having been away from the pitch since sustaining a ligament injury back in December.

  1. Grateful for what Kjaer has done for Milan in the last 2.5 years but i’d have 0 issues if he is sold for profit and have those money invested in a younger more mobile and more fitness dependable defender.
He is going on 34, coming back from serious knee injury and even prior to the ACL he was in and out because of injuries.
Use his transfer money towards Evan Ndicka

  2. As a dane i’ve followed kjær since his career started in denmark and i already wanted him to join us when he left palermo in 2010 and propably was also one of the few milan fans actually welcoming him with open arms when he in the end joined us and id say if he is fit then the other cbs will have their work in front of them to keep their starting spots. He isnt especially dependant on his speed as his positioning and leadership is where he excells in my view in and its pretty much guaranteed he wil have a great hunger in both recapturing his starting position but also as denmark has a possiblity to go far into the world cup to stay fit for that to happen. I even remember while he was injured that he said in a a danish interview that he was confident that he would come back stronger as he would have a lot of time to intensify work on other parts of his physique.
In the end it will be greatly beneficial to the squad and the other cbs that he is back for us.

      1. creed: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
        kinda sounds like a sheep
like i give a damn about your insightfull post either

        1. I wanted him back when he was in Palermo too Martin. Too bad it didn’t happened back then, he was the most promising young CB in Italy. But in the end it turned out fine. He came and won the scudetto with Milan. I am sure he can play at least one more season as a starter. Despite Kalulu’s growth, Kjaer has still been the more consistent player and i think he can still offer a bit more.

          1. Rossi glad im not the only one seeing it as he was a great talent already back then and has always shown great composure and could have been the perfect understudy at that time with the old guard ageing and retiring but i agree ind the end it seems like he arrived at the perfect time, Regardless of how it goes there will be great competition for the cbs so nobody really should feeel to safe and drop too much in the level of quality of performances.

    1. I dont mind gabbia as he in my view generally always performed either good or decent when fielded with a few mishaps as well but i really hope for the sake of his career and milan as well that he gets loaned out for a season or two and then comes back stronger. If we buy an extra cb i would say even more so as it would be a shame to see him sit on the bench as 4rth or 5th choice for another season if he could develope further with another club and maybe even end up in contention of a italy debut.. I rank his potential but he needs the chance to shine and its unlikely to happen at milan currently.

  3. He’s just 1.5m a year contract, and i think we still need his leadership, just like ibra, if ibra is renewed, why would we sell him then, he is good example for young player too,
