Raimondi says Chelsea defender will ‘probably’ join Milan in January

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are likely to sign Chelsea defender Trovoh Chalobah on loan this January because the Premier League side are opening up to the idea.

As has been reported by Claudio Raimondi for Sport Mediaset (via Milan News), the Rossoneri are trying all they can to sign a centre-back this month given there are so many players out injured.

A whole host of names have been linked with Milan and whilst the favourite target appears to be Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno, he could prove too expensive for a January move.

A loan transfer seems far more plausible, and that lends itself to Chalobah. He has not been featuring heavily for Chelsea so far this season, partly due to the fact that he only recently came back from a knee injury.

That injury will be of concern to Milan as they do not need their new signing to end up injured, but it is a risk they may take.

As Raimondi says, Chelsea seem open to the idea of a loan with an option for Milan to make it a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.

“A defender will arrive and it will probably be Chalobah. Chelsea is opening up. He can arrive on loan, a Tomori-style operation,” Raimondi said.

That is the formula that Milan used to get Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea in 2021.

  1. No thanks, absolutely useless, injured all the time and when he does play he is nothing great, hence why Chelsea want rid of him, we would be utter mugs to take him

    1. Before this recent injury, he has rarely been injured, and when it comes to Chelsea getting rid of players, some of our fans still haven’t learned their lesson from Tomori, Giroud, Pulisic, RLC. Chelsea wanting to get rid of a player is actually a good sign.

      1. Been out 162 days this season, last season 22 days, previous to that another 57 days, I get your point about Chelsea players, Pulisic a prime example, injured all the time for Chelsea and now look.
But I would still not go for Chalobah, no chance, we need people who can help the team immediately, preferably serie A experience, not someone who has been out injured for 5 months

    2. People said the same thing about Puli and he’s been one of the most consistent players. By low in January is smart if he doesn’t work out. The regular CBs start coming back in a month. Everyone can talk about how well kjear and gabbia are doing but they were central in a unit that gave up two goals to 17th place Udinese and we all saw how easily Lazar put Kjear on his a$$. The signs are there I see why Pioli wants some insurance. Especially if Milan are going to catch inter. The goals are flowing but unfortunately for Milan they are flowing on the other end too.

  2. Interesting player. He would bring tactical flexibility given he can play in a back three and he has a decent shot. Not sure if we need to be collecting talent for the sake of it but if he fits management’s long term goals it’s something to consider.

  3. I understand gambling on Pulisic, but I’d rather we not just clear out there roster for the sake of it. He’s an interesting player, but we need to stop being in the business of revitalizing careers.

A loan with an option is the only way I’d consider this worthwhile.

  4. This indicates that the managent specially Furlani whom i respect alot has no vission
By taking this Flop, injury prone, lack of quality,
Plus he is not our Players so is milan a factory that works others instead of its owners look Diaz and CDK.
And you send out Pellegerino while taking this one.
Pioli is the really enemy of acmilan he exploites the shaky decesions of the Maganagent and the owners.
Where is Simic and the newly signed highly quality Right back from Verona he uses Florenzi and Calabria sorry

  5. it’s like 1/5 injury prone players can shine again,
Pulisic one, other like Origi Bakayoko Pato Kaka Redondo vBasten they didn’t make it
