AS: Real Madrid’s plan and a possible €250m clause – the latest on Leao’s future

By Oliver Fisher -

Real Madrid are interested in signing Rafael Leao but AC Milan are planning a counter-move to protect him long-term, according to a report.

Diario AS report that Leao’s current contract ends in 2024 and he has a release clause of €150m, but after a season in which the Portuguese winger was absolutely fundamental in the Scudetto win, there is the desire to increase that further.

Milan have already contacted his agent Jorge Mendes to discuss a contract extension and negotiate an increase in his clause to €200m or even €250m. However, Los Blancos know that Marco Asensio and Luka Jovic are two players that Milan like a lot and as such they could offer them up as counterparts to lower the price.

The former Lille man is very happy at Milan however and wants to continue his adventure with the Rossoneri, but if Real Madrid did make a concrete offer that the management wanted to accept, he would not say no to joining Real Madrid.

    1. Or maybe Jovic, Arsenio and 100m. Either way, they need to be getting close to the 150m valuation whether that’s players and cash or just cash…. and im not sure about jovic. Is he much better than Belotti who is free?

        1. He can be potentially. Belotti is almost finished, you don’t get average players at the end of their career. That is why that signing if it is almost free makes a lot of sense.

      1. Jovic’s only 18M now. Both Vinicius jr and Asensio worth 140-150M plus Cash 110M would be approriate deal to be talked into.

  1. From everything we know about super agent Jotge Mendes, there is 0% chance that he agrees to a new contract with that much higher release clause. He and any other agent would advise his client against it. In no way that benefits the player, because in case things go wrong (club – player relationship wise) he is stuck and at mercy of the club

  2. Lets be honest, if we get 150m for Leao, I would consider selling, for 200m, obviously we would sell.

Leao did a great job this season, but last season was mediocre. Once he is really good he is lighting fast and has something few have BUT, he is not irreplaceable. For a profit of +100m you can do A LOT. I would even give Rebic a new chance, and invest in a top striker and a right winger.

    1. If we can get an awesome pack consists of Darwin Nunez, Noa Lang, CDK, Bremer, Enzo Fernandez. It would be a huge upgrade 🙂

    2. Yeah, people don’t get that for the price of one player you can improve 3-4 positions. As in the entire squad takes a step up. I get that Leao has a lot of talent, but even Messi and Mbappe can’t win titles if 3-4 starters are scrubs or barely walking (Diaz/Krunic, Saladmaker/Messias, Giroud/Ibra). We already have his potential replacement in Origi, who people forget is originally a LW, not a striker. Even at 120m we could fix three problem positions (ST, RW, AMC) in one fell swoop. Then Origi himself can be upgraded in 2-3 seasons because we’re winning thanks to the overall upgraded squad from Leao’s sale. That’s how you team build.

  3. Jovic and Asensio…? Nah… that’s small potatoes. I would accept only Vini Jr. plus 100m haha… but nothing like that will gonna happen, he’ll stick with us.

  4. Stop comment unreasonable like trade him with 100m euro + Vini jr. Vini jr have more salary than leao and winning more trophy than leao. Even if real Madrid come with cash 100-120m euro without trade player already very good for AC Milan , with that amount money AC Milan buy new LW + RW top quality

      1. Or have the best bunga bunga party you’ve ever seen. Berlusconi and Uncle Fester are back in Serie A afterall….
