CorSera: The reason behind a potential one-year extension to Leao’s Milan deal

AC Milan could extend Rafael Leao’s contract by just one year so that they can then negotiate further with less pressure on the club and the player, a report claims.

As has been reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), the Rossoneri are trying to secure the future of the Portuguese forward who is regarded as the best and most important player in the squad.

Negotiations have been going on for a long time but given the current deal runs until June 2024, there is immense pressure to either renew the deal now or sell him this summer, as he could go for free in 2024 otherwise.

One idea that now exists to buy the club more time is to extend his deal by a single year. That means they can then spend the summer negotiating for a longer extension without the same time constraints that make things so hard right now.

  1. Time constraints? They have been negotiating for two years now…What they have not been able to do so far, they will not be able to do before the summer.

To me the obvious reason is the lack of certainty when it comes to CL-qualification. Without it, we cannot afford to keep him.

  2. CDS not reliable source. Why would he do that ? He have 19m euro debt to sporting and only free transfer can make him free from that debt. The best for ACM are give him highest offer ACM can afford like 7-8m euro / season with deadline until transfer market open , if he dont want renew then sell him to highest bidder maybe to city, chelsea, real madrid,PSG. I believe ACM can get 50-60m euro from his sale
