MN: Rebic hoping to be decisive in the final stretch again – his future may depend on it

By Oliver Fisher -

We have seen Ante Rebic become decisive in the final phase of the season before, but if he were to do it this season it could be his biggest contribution yet.

Rebic has missed 16 games due to injury in the current campaign and despite scoring goals in big games like at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League and the equaliser against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, he has largely struggled.

MilanNews writes how the hope is that the match against Lazio may have marked Rebic’s rebirth as he came off the bench with a battling and energetic performance full of determination, winning possession which led to the winner in the 92nd minute.

In 2019-20, Rebic scored a brace against Udinese and from that moment on he bagged another 9 goals and 3 assists thus having an excellent second half of the season, while in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign he racked up 10 goals and 1 assist.

Some positive signs were seen in the Lazio win especially with regards to the attitude of the Croatian. The pressure on Marusic that led to the winning goal and indeed his performance on Sunday evening in general should give confidence, and the next four games are crucial for his future given the speculation he could leave.

  1. Give him a starting spot. He deserves it with his last game. Let’s Leao catch his breath! Squad rotation and players match fitness is essential and Pioli clearly lack this.

  2. Rebic has been the best player for us during the 2nd half of the season. We also saw what he did in the Lazio game. He fights for the ball and wins it. If Pioli doesn’t want to bench Leao, Rebic can be deployed at RW. I’m pretty sure he will be better than any of our current RW. Else he can be made to play as a CAM, still a better choice than Kessie

  3. Tonali can play the 10 as well, he is tried less running, let Kessie play the double pivot with Bennacer, slide Tonali back half and put Rebic at the 10 played there with Eintracht. It is all hands on deck the last four games you have all summer to recoup, now is time for all to man up, and play with your heart

    1. Rebic and Benacer are better options for AMC N10 role instead of Jessie and Brahim. Benacer is very creative and also started to score from distance. I wonder why Pioli doesn’t try arrangement?

  4. Use him as CF. We need a forward that plays a little back and helps our AM. He is also our best pressing player.
And only let Giroud and Zlatan in over tired opponents.
