The Red Star head coach Vladan Milojevic has claimed that AC Milan and Inter are two very different teams, praising his opposite number Paulo Fonseca.
Milan will face a side that are in brilliant form and should be full of confidence. Red Star have won 16 of their 17 league games so far this season (drawing the other). The Serbians have scored 55 goals and allowed nine, sitting 15 points ahead of their rivals Partizan in second.
In the Champions League they have naturally found things more difficult, having been well beaten by Inter and Barcelona. Last time out they put five goals past VfB Stuttgart in what was a memorable European night that keeps their play-off hopes alive.
Milojevic and his team saw San Siro first hand again last night after their previous visit when they lost 4-0 to Inter, and the coach spoke at his pre-match press conference after. MilanNews relayed his comments.
Have you chosen your team?
“I haven’t decided on the line-up yet. Milan are very different from Inter. We’re playing here again at San Siro, we know it, but I don’t know if this will be an advantage.”
How is Krunic?
“Since he is with us he is ready. We have many players available, some are not 100%.”
Are Milan’s players stronger than Inter’s?
“Milan are a very good team with a very good and well-known coach. But they are all Champions League matches.”
Fonseca said that Red Star are a dangerous opponent…
“Italy is a country with a great history. In journalism there should be no teams that are belittled, because here we are in the Champions League. Those who write these things… I say that we no longer look at it that way.
“Belittling teams is not sporting. I don’t see why they should underestimate Red Star. Then there are favourites and underdogs. Let’s see the greatness of the Italians on this because they don’t belittle anyone.”
After the victory against Stuttgart you are back in the qualification hunt…
“The same details are decisive for every match: motivation, reducing mistakes, especially against big clubs like that, a foul, a corner… Everything counts. In a few years we will remember this moment: we played against the great Milan as we played against the great Inter.”
Milan have been criticised a lot recently…
“Milan is Milan, they are a big club, it is normal to be under pressure because the expectations are big. Milan is a phenomenal team in every sense. They are a great team and Fonseca is truly a fantastic coach. Their results in the Champions League show that they can achieve great things.”
