This evening, Tijjani Reijnders spoke about his decision to leave AC Milan, whilst admitting his love for the club where he spent two years.
There was a sense of inevitability about Reijnders last season. The midfielder was the shining star of an underperforming side, so it was natural that interest was going to be present. However, the handling of the situation by Milan was woeful.

Not only did the management make repeated suggestions, if not more, that he would be staying, but he left for a value that many feel is below his worth.
Had the Rossoneri started the season in a different manner, perhaps frustrations would be more apparent. Though his departure allowed a needed midfield revamp.

Today, he spoke to MilanNews in Manchester about his decision to leave the club, the new Diavolo midfield and his hopes for the club this season.
Tijjani, what was it like leaving Milan to join Manchester City?
“It was really hard to leave Milan because I had a great relationship with everyone there. The fans, my teammates, the staff… and all of that made my departure difficult emotionally. But…”

“Then Manchester City came knocking and from a sporting point of view it was the best decision for me.”
Is moving from Milan to Manchester City a step forward only from a Champions League perspective?
“If we look at the last few years of both clubs, I think it’s a step forward from every perspective. Just look at the number of trophies they’ve won in recent years. Then there’s a great coach here, and just look at the players the club has. I have a lot of feelings for Milan, but some trains only pass once…”
The club knew you would leave an unfillable void by bringing in four midfielders like Jashari, Rabiot, Ricci, and Modric to replace you…
“I don’t know if they took so many midfielders just because I left [Reijnders bursts out laughing]. Many quality midfielders have arrived, and I hope they give their all to bring Milan back to where it deserves to be: in the Champions League and fighting for trophies.”
After a great start to the season, can Milan already win the Scudetto?
“Of course. Milan has built a great team, and I hope they win Serie A.”
Despite him leaving, his impact can still be felt, given that his departure has allowed the club to share the quality in midfield across the board.

Honestly, I would not even accept a reijnders return even if he was for free. Left Milan for sporting reasons and for sporting reasons I am glad that he is not here. Defensively poor, weak and too talkative. Professing love as he saw Milan doing better without him. Lol. The time will come when guadiola dropped him
