Reijnders ‘very proud’ after goal vs. Real Madrid as he reveals work on positioning

AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has admitted that he has been working on his attacking positioning after he scored against Real Madrid.

Milan pulled off what might be the shock result of the night in the Champions League as they went to the Santiago Bernabeu and beat the current holders 3-1 thanks to goals from Malick Thiaw, Alvaro Morata and Reijnders.

The Dutchman scored what ended up being the killer goal on the night, his third of the competition so far too after the brace he netted against Club Brugge in the last round.

Rafael Leao went galloping down the left and into the box past Vazquez and squared it on a plate to the former AZ Alkmaar man, who managed to take a touch and lash a low shot underneath Lunin from close range.

Reijnders spoke to Milan TV after the game and gave his thoughts after a memorable night both personally and for the team.

“Something you want in big games, to score a goal of course. Tonight was a magical night for the team and for me, and I’m very proud of this,” he said.

“I think now I’m more ‘in the box’ instead of a little bit outside the box so I arrive more in the right places. It’s a good feeling of course, I worked on it last season already but this season it’s working out really well until now.

“Next Saturday we have another match and we have to be ready for that because in the league we also have to win our games. We can take the confidence from this game to the next match.”

    1. No doubt about it. Reijnders & Pulisic are the most intelligent, creating and assisting excellent passages of play with their creativity and vision.
However , you also have Morata who is so intelligent in a different way , guerilla warfare if you want to call it.
Last night he single handedly annoyed the sh*t out of the bernabeau with his constant mutterings and dialogue with the ref, fouls won , tactical positioning and everything else he involves himself with due to his experience and intelligence.

      1. Morata’s attitude and work-ethics are amazing. I’ve said I have hated the guy since seeing him the first time but now that he’s working his @ss off for Milan I’ve started to see his value. Too bad he still needs 10 chances to score one goal.

  1. Reijnders is a very special player in the way he plays and this season he’s reaching his potential. 100% pass rate is unbelievable but not only that, the way he moves the ball forward and frees himself space and now he’s scoring. If he keeps this up he can actually be one of the best midfielders out there. Happy for him because he’s a terrific player and a terrific person. Forza tijjani!!

  2. The way he fought out of that press to break free then continue the run for the goal was just nasty work.
That’s what I’d like from him to do more. Once he can show this sort of grit and not be bullied off the ball so easily, combine that with movements and bravery I’d get off his case lol 🤭😂
    Great stuff ngl

  3. This kid, along with Pulisic and Fofana have been hit signings. The jury still out on Musah (even though he did well today), Chuck, Pavlovic, Okafor and Tammy. So far RLC, Terraciano have been a miss. WE got a core of good players that have a high ceiling.
Mike, Theo, Fofana, Puli, Leao on their day are freaking world class. They need consistency. Love morata’s work ethic, Tomori is pretty good, Musah is young but has done well, Chuck and Okafor have shown flashes. We need freaking consistency.

    1. I think you are right about the top signings. Chuck & Okafor are improving under Fonseca but seem one dimensional. Tammy I doubt will stay longer then a season , a dynamic false 9 who can score would serve us better, even though he gives his all.
For me Pavlovic has been the biggest disappointment , many thought he would walk into the starting eleven but he needs more apprenticeship as he lacks composure at the top level. Musah can be very important and should improve his football IQ with experience. Terraciano has improved and can cover multiple roles but he remains a question mark.
Loftus , Jovic and Calabria should be replaced with strong replacements.

  4. He’s really good and what’s more important, keeps improving each passing game. The guy has everything to become a world class midfielder.
