Alvaro Morata of Atletico Madrid

Relevo: Milan put Morata top of their wish list – the two issues to overcome

AC Milan’s interest in Alvaro Morata is concrete and Atletico Madrid have named the price they want for the striker, a report claims.

According to Relevo, Morata can be considered top of the list of centre-forward targets for Milan. They believe that he is the ideal player – because of his characteristics and experience – for Stefano Pioli’s game.

Atlético are asking for €20m for the Spaniard, an amount that will be reinvested to reinforce that position again. Morata has two more years on his contract after renewing this summer, but his agent Juanma López has been speaking directly with Milan for a week.

There are some issues though related to the salary the 30-year-old gets. Morata has signed an extension but next season he will continue to earn the €6.5m that he gets as part of his previous agreement, before dropping to €5m.

In addition, the Rossoneri will have to negotiate a transfer fee with Atlético, since Morata’s clause is set at around €25m. Los Rojiblancos are asking for €20m, which they would then use to buy another striker.

It is described as a ‘complicated but not impossible’ pursuit for Milan. The issue related to his pay could be resolved very easily, either with a salary spread over several years given Morata is open to the idea of returning to Italy.

There is interest from Saudi Arabia to look out for though, because after rejecting a first offer of €120m net over three years from Al Tawwon – the team coached by Steven Gerrard – Al Etiffaq are readying a mega bid too.

    1. Bro it’s 20m.we Throw money for literally benchwarmers and washed up PL players nice . That’s the new future in AC Milan. They want adama traore too

          1. To be fair, almost no one complained when we signed him for free. As we all know his reputation on scoring on in important matches. It’s a transfer and we’ll just never know the outcome.

          2. “To be fair, almost no one complained when we signed him for free.”

LOL. Go check the old posts. There were plenty of us who were against the move. Rightly so.

          3. “LOL. Go check the old posts. There were plenty of us who were against the move. Rightly so.”

Just checked and nope, if anything it’s not plenty. Majority of the comments still supported him. Most of the members who against the decision as they thought we should sign Belotti instead. Well, it didn’t age well too.

        1. “Why what is wrong with Adama Traore if he comes to us for free?”

He’d eat playing time from others. Traore is a 2-goal-per-season type of winger. We have plenty of those already. We need someone with +10 goal contribution and Traore for sure isn’t one of those players.

  1. I think its a no brainer, he suits Saudi Arabia perfect at this point. Let him make money and go on to live happy life. I would rather give a chance to someone from primavera the spend money on this guy

If you strguggle to score ar Altetico as a #9 there is a definate issue with you, considering the way they play

    1. Obviously you have never seem Atletico play because under Simeone the best strikers throughout history will struggle to score goals.
That man coaching style is the image of parking the bus. The starting 11 is usually a GK, 8 defenders or defensive midfielders, and 2 attackers..
The issue in Atletico are not the strikers but the coach

      1. Morata scored 13 goals last season but missed 16 big chances (higher xg shots). Never mind all the half-chances that came to nothing. He single-handedly cost Atleti at least 10-12 pts by missing chances most other players would have scored. The point is: despite being on a defensive team, the chances were there, he just can’t finish.

    1. Oh I just realized. This might be our way of gratitude towards Atletico as they bought and took Kalinic away from us years ago. This is the only logical reason to get him.

  2. What happened to Balogun, Retegui, Wahi? Young guys with potential and probably not much more expensive than Morata.

  3. There is a 3rd key issue: Morata sucks.

I suspect they’ve quickly come to realise Tonali was the wrong player to sell. Too expensive to replace at anything near the same reliability and we need at least 4 mids with him gone.

So now we shop in the bargain bin for strikers who barely score.

    1. I agree they made a massive mistake selling Tonali. He would’ve stayed at Milan long-term. Leao,Theo and Maigan will all leave in the future. The players we’ve signed or are being linked with are like rubbing salt in a wound.
We’re being linked with a striker that can’t finish. A winger that’s really fast but can’t score or cross to save his life. The player we have signed is just completely average. It’s going to be a real struggle to get top 4 next season.

      1. “Leao,Theo and Maigan will all leave in the future. ”

Of course they will. Zlatan just showed everyone that nothing lasts forever. People come and people go. The club remains.

  4. Dig deeper around those pockets carnival. For an extra 10m I’m sure you can find a striker who scored goals, is 6-7 years younger. Enough of these stop gap strikers. Give the position what it deserves. It’s your own damn fault your 2 midfielders down. Plugging that gap should not burden the amount required for a striker.

  5. Save the money and put faith in Colombo, can’t be any worse than Origi, he’s young, hungry, cheap, Italian and will learn from Giroud

  6. 30 years old , not have resale value . That would be disaster to buy this over rated & over price morata. It is still better use colombo & lazetic as 2nd & 3rd striker rather than morata
