Report: Arsenal boss Arteta thinking of selling star playmaker; Milan could rekindle interest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could rekindle their interest in Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil amid doubts over his future at the club, according to a report.

It was claimed back in November by Calciomercato.it claimed that the Rossoneri are among the admirers of Ozil, who has amassed 43 goals and 76 assists in 250 competitive appearances for the Gunners.

It was even reported by Calciomercatonews.com that Milan and rivals Inter are interested in the possibility of signing Ozil, and could reach out to his entourage ahead of a January move, but that never arrived.

According to a report from Calciomercato.it though – who cite The Sun – Mikel Arteta is already thinking about who to let go and three big names are on the list: namely Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. The first and last also have a contractual situation that pushes for their farewell as their deals expire at the end of next season.

The report adds that sale of the trio would also represent an opportunity for Serie A clubs, particularly the German international for Milan as they look for big names to help relaunch just as they have with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, there is a considerable obstacle to be overcome: the former Real Madrid player earns around €17million-a-year.
