Report: Milan target set for crucial talks with Arsenal boss; Newcastle also interested

By Oliver Fisher -

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is reportedly set for talks with midfielder Granit Xhaka over his future at the club amid links with a move to Milan.

The Rossoneri are expected to be busy in the January transfer as they look to add some experience and leadership to a young squad which has struggled to start the season and currently sits down in 14th place.

One of the players who has been linked by a number of outlets is Xhaka, with the midfielder having been out of the fold at Arsenal since his altercation with supporters last month which resulted in him being stripped of the captaincy.

Xhaka cost Arsenal €50m when he joined from Monchengladbach (as per the Telegraph) back in 2017, and it has been claimed that he could be offered the chance to return there.

However, Calciomercato.com claimed on Monday that Milan ‘remain at the window, very attentive to the development of the story’ after Xhaka’s latest social media post.

Now, the Newcastle Chronicle are reporting that Gunners boss Emery is set to hold talks with Xhaka after the international break, with Newcastle interested in signing him too.

The report adds that Emery ‘has already spoken to club chiefs about whether the midfielder should be sold in January’ but that the 27-year-old is settled in London and still respected by his team-mates.
