Report: Milan to offer escape route for €46m Man Utd flop; €30m Barcelona man still a target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could be set to rival Inter for the signing of both a Barcelona midfielder and a Manchester United outcast, a report claims.

We revealed in our most recent exclusive that Elliott Management are looking to reinforce the squad in January by adding some more experienced players to a squad considered ‘too young’.

According to a report on Calciomercatonews.com – who cite SportMediaset – the Rossoneri could be settle for a battle with their neighbours Inter for Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic.

The outlet recently reported that Rakitic is a major midfield target for compatriot Zvonomir Boban, and that a move for the €30m rated Croatian could be funded by Franck Kessie’s sale.

However, the report goes on to claim that should Milan fail to land Rakitic, they could turn to Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic – also a target for Inter.

With the Serbia international’s contract expiring in June, the Red Devils are said to be ‘open to the sale’ of the man they paid £40m (€46m) for back in 2017.

Matic has played just five competitive games for United this season and does not appear to be part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term plans.
