Report: Napoli had deal in place to sign Theo Hernandez but the player rejected

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could have missed out on the signing of Theo Hernandez to Serie A rivals Napoli last summer, according to a report.

The Frenchman arrived from Real Madrid in a deal widely reported to be worth €20m and has been nothing short of a revelation since establishing himself in the starting XI, scoring six league goals to make him the club’s second-top scorer this campaign.

However, according to Radio Kiss Kiss in Naples (via MilanNews), Napoli were actually very close to securing the services of the 22-year-old before the Rossoneri did.

The Partenopei had a deal in place with Real Madrid but the player had some doubts about moving to Naples as a city, and Milan then swooped in and he preferred the idea of living in Lombardia.

Now, Theo continues to impress and Napoli will be kicking themselves that they couldn’t convince him, as he looks set to be a pillar of Milan’s project for years to come.
