Report: Newcastle have scouted Milan playmaker ‘extensively’ this season

By Oliver Fisher -

Newcastle United have been scouting AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu closely this season, according to a report.

The Turkey international has made 24 appearances for the Rossoneri across league and cup so far this season and has established himself as a key part of head coach Stefano Pioli’s plans, both in the 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 systems used.

Despite this, there has been plenty of speculation regarding his future with a number of clubs having been credited with interested in January, including the likes of Leicester and Arsenal.

According to what is being reported by the Newcastle Chronicle, Calhanoglu has been ‘watched extensively’ by Newcastle this season as Steve Bruce eyes potential midfield reinforcements for the summer.

Calciomercato.com recently reported that Calhanoglu could leave Milan this summer due to his contract situation. By the time June comes around he will have a year left on his deal, and Milan have no intentions of letting him wind down his deal and leave for free, which could mean they cash in on the midfielder.
