Reports: Milan closing in on signing of Chelsea forward who is set to agree €7m deal

AC Milan look set to bolster their attacking department with the signing of experienced striker Olivier Giroud, according to reports.

Sky (via MilanNews) are reporting that the Rossoneri are serious for Giroud, so much so that in the next few days a meeting is planned between the Milan management and the Frenchman’s entourage to talk about the potential operation.

The centre-forward is on a contract which is about to expire with Chelsea and therefore he would land in Italy on a free transfer. It has been rumoured for weeks that Milan are looking to replace Mario Mandzukic with a more physically reliable player, in order to give some much-needed support to the injury prone Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur meanwhile, Giroud to Milan is a done deal and the 34-year-old will earn €7m net over a two-year contract, therefore penning a deal worth €3.5m per season.

  1. This is a defensible move if he is viewed as a bridge — perhaps to Colombo. Would have preferred a 1+1 deal, but not the end of the world.

  2. 34 year and 7 million! No, not a good deal. Giroud isn’t Zlatan. He is an average player like he always has been. If they go for this old guy I hope they will sign an alternative attacker. A younger one.

I kind understand if Hakan moves because he can’t get a higher salary. It doesn’t make sense if we can give so much to Giroud.
I hope Milan will go after quality not just free or cheaper player. They will get some tough opponents in the champions league, so they need to reinforce the team with good players. Forza Milan.
