Repubblica: Idea for resumption of Serie A in May – no fans and possible neutral venues

By Oliver Fisher -

The Serie A season could start again in a month and a half but with many limitations imposed, a report claims, especially for the fans.

As Sunday’s edition of La Repubblica notes (via MilanNews), the Coronavirus risk will still be quite strong even in a month and a half, when play is expected to resume in Italy, so gatherings in stadiums would be prohibited.

Therefore, the Serie A season will start again behind closed doors, therefore the idea of the Lega is to play every game in the designated stadium without a crowd.

But there is also the possibility of matches being played at a neutral venue: if in May some red areas remain high-risk (such as Milan’s region of Lombardy) it is likely that the matches scheduled in those most dangerous areas may be moved to other places.

In short, a Serie A ready to start again, but without arguably the most important aspect: the fans.
