Alexis Saelemaekers has been reborn under Claudio Ranieri, and Roma seem to want to resolve any doubts about his future ahead of time.

According to Il Tempo (via Calciomercato.com), this could be an important week in determining where Saelemaekers will play beyond this season. His agent Gordon Stipic has arrived in Milano to talk with Milan and with Roma about making his loan a permanent deal.

Having arrived in the capital last summer in exchange for Tammy Abraham going on a dry loan the other way, the former Anderlecht player has become a key player for Ranieri. This season he has played 13 games and has racked up four goals and three assists, from a new wing-back position.

Roma director Florent Ghisolfi is aware that the summer chat with Geoffrey Moncada about a possible buy-out figure of €15m is only the starting point. The two clubs will talk, with the desire to reach a solution that can satisfy all parties.

Saelemaekers, whose contract with Milan expires in 2027, is happy at Roma and would not be averse to continuing his adventure in Giallorossi. The doors are closed at Milan and to date there are no different signals, not even with Sergio Conceicao having taken over.

Moncada and Giorgio Furlani want to cash in despite the fact the Belgian seems like he would be useful for Conceicao. The negotiations will not be tied to possible talks over the permanent signing of Abraham, which will be spoken about separately.

As a reminder, Saelemaekers cost Milan €3.5m as a loan fee and a €3.7m option to buy was triggered six months after his arrival from Anderlecht. As of June 30, he had a residual cost on the accounts of around €2.5m.

  1. Sale 15 mil, Adli 10, Pobega 7-10, Colombo 5-7, Romero 5-7, Pellegrino 3-4, Kalulu 17, Lazetic 1, that’s one quite chunk of more than 60 million on loan players to be sold next year.
If we add some of them that should also be sold because of very low impact on the game, like Okafor, Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus, maybe Pavlovic as well, that’s much more than 100 million of sold players. For that money 4 players should be bought of acquisition of 30 million per player, and buy best possible central forward, right winger, central defender, and defensive midfielder a make stronger team.

    1. I think it’s fair to give a chance to Pavlovic, he came for around 20m€ and I still think he can be great defender. It’s stupid idea if we sell him after one year for half of this price. But yes Chuk and RLC can go and Okafor if stay for the second part of the season, Conceicao can try him because he was good in Salzburg and there he play like striker, not typical Winger… But Yes, I Agree we need buy better players

    2. Even without Pavlovic that number should be 100-110M range. Also Saelemakers situation can go in different ways.

We need roughly 5-6 players… If we sign J.David for instance that’s 5 20M players, just like we always do.

Vanderson, Ricci/Frendrup (both if Benny leaves in the summer), Gnoto, Pepe (if Saelemakers is sold), J.David and 1 more ST (Rashford?)

If we can sign 2-3 players now, things would become easier for the summer. Gnoto, Frendrup and Rashford should be doable and all can compete in UCL.

Vanderson would be Calabria replacement, Ricci Benny’s, Pepe would be natural sub for Leao and J.David would be an upgrade on Tammy of course.

      1. Yes, it looks like Calabria definitely end in club. If they sign Kile Walker, then in summer no more players come to this position. Ricci looks like hot article and I hope we buy him . And yes definitely J.David is big upgrade to Tammy, I really hope we don’t buy Abraham, but In David there will be big fight, Also Inter, Juve and few clubs from PL want him.. I know there are many fans who hate Morata, and yes I also hope he will score more goals, but I’m okey with him because he try hard every match . Morata with David + Leao and Pulisic on wings sounds great

    3. Generally agree but I’d keep Pobega and possibly even Colombo as players who can fill Academy slots and offer depth on the bench. With Calabria likely leaving, I believe Gabbia will be our only Academy slot used at present.

    1. It’s on par with the time Tammy came on as a sub. 2 mins later he missed a sitter and managed to put himself in the net instead of the ball. Dislocated his shoulder and had to subbed himself.
      🤦‍♂️

I still hold out hope that he can make an impact before the season ends. Think we look more dangerous when he is playing instead of Morata.
