Watch: Romagnoli sends heartwarming farewell message to Milan – ‘An unforgettable experience’

By Euan Burns -

Former AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli has posted a video to Instagram with a farewell message after his move to Lazio was confirmed.

Romagnoli’s contract expired with Milan at the end of the season and he has now agreed on terms with Lazio, the team he has supported all his life, and has been officially announced as their new player.

The former captain shared a video to Instagram and accompanied it with a long message to the Milan fans and the club.

The statement said: “After seven years the time has come to say goodbye. You welcomed me when I was a boy and I leave you as a man. Milan represents a family to me and it has been so for all these seven years.

“We went through difficult times, but then we took it on, accomplishing an extraordinary feat.

“I want to thank all the people who work at Casa Milan and especially those at Milanello, with whom I have shared unforgettable moments. I thank all the teammates I’ve had over the years, all the directors, and all the coaches.

“I especially want to thank Adriano Galliani and Coach Mihajlovic for having brought me to Milan. A special thank you goes to Coach Gattuso because, besides having given me the captain’s armband, he has been the most important person for me in my Rossoneri career.

“Finally, I thank you, all the fans, for your constant affection and support and for always making me feel like one of you.

“Now the time has come to say goodbye, but the memory of an unforgettable experience and what Milan has meant to me will always remain in my heart.

“I hope I’ve entered your hearts and left you with good memories as a footballer but above all as a man, because that’s what I value most.

“I embrace you and I’ll see you soon as opponents.”

  1. Romagnoli didn’t progressed as a player to the level we wanted and expected when he first signed for Milan but as a Man he was always great with the way he acted and represented Milan .
Good luck to Alessio, hopefully he recovers his form and gets back to the Italian NT

    1. Maybe he’d rather have started every game with the Captain Armband and led us to 3rd or 4th place with poor performances, than lift the Trophy as Captain while playing as the coach’s tactics permits. I hope he understands that he just wasn’t good enough last season albeit being the Captain, The Club comes first!!. Dude clearly holds a grudge against Pioli, that’s pride and ego talking. I wish him well in his future endeavor.

  2. Massive respect to everything he did for us. Best wishes on your new adventure. Thanks for sticking with us when we were in a tough spot.

I still think letting him go is a mistake for one bad season. But it is what it is.

Good luck and best wishes Alessio.

  3. When AC Milan in dark time from berlusconi to yong hong li era,he is one of our best player on squad. But after our squad already good, his performance down and lost starter spot to tomori, kalulu. I still respect him,he deserve starter spot in lazio for his career. Grazie capitano romagnoli for your 7 years in AC Milan winning supercoppa & scudetto

  4. It so sad to me to see him leave. When he was given captain armband i was so happy to see someone with big potential will lead the team to glory. but his story with milan ends here.

honestly he is not a bad defender. 1 bad season doesnt conclude his overall strengh. but i understand why. he just doesnt fit to pioli system. pioli system requires fast CB and romagnoli is simply just not. so it is a tactical decision. eventhough he is still useful, we cant have a captain that sits on the bench. he will never be happy

So i hope he will get back his form at Lazio and get into the azzuri team. Grazie Capitano
