Romano: Atletico Madrid rejected €35m for Milan target – the situation

Yesterday, AC Milan were linked to another striker with the Joshua Zirkzee situation failing to progress, even if the Rossoneri are the favourites. However, a report has claimed that Atletico Madrid rejected a substantial bid for him in recent weeks, which could cause the club to look elsewhere.

Now Paulo Fonseca has been appointed, there is a new point of focus for everyone – a striker. With the importance of the position, there needs to be an adequate amount of analysis for all options, and new suggestions arise daily.

The latest to be evaluated has been Samu Omorodion, the 20-year-old striker who joined Atletico Madrid for €5 million last summer. He spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, scoring eight goals and assisting once in 34 La Liga games, and whilst that might not be setting alight a division, Milan believe there is potential there.

As reported yesterday, with Zirkzee’s situation not changing, other options are being evaluated, and whilst Omorodion presents a risk, there is a belief around the club that he could become a star for the Rossoneri.

Atletico also believe that he could become a star, though, and even though they paid €5m last summer, they are looking for a substantial increase on their investment. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club rejected a bid of €35m from West Ham a few weeks ago, which certainly adds to the risk of a proposed move.

    1. Other team find talent before us doesn’t mean our scouting team is bad. He is Spanish so it’s more likely Spanish team will find him faster than we do.

Beside that, the value of a player is dictated by the owner. It’s up to the buyer if they will entertain the valuation or trying to negotiate to lower the asking price.

    2. How many 20 year old strikers transferred last summer for 5M and then scored 9 goals or whatever, and are now valued higher? How many transferred for 5M and did jack sh!t? You can’t blame our scouting team for missing every single player that some other team bought last summer for X, then performed and is now valued higher, and that they’re not playing for us.

  1. I said it before. 55m for Zirkzee is appropriate, even inexpensive in today’s market. Having “principles” about agent fees is gonna see us spend more or end up with another Jovic.

    1. The problem is simple and has already been highlighted by several others… If we pay 15m here than other agents will use this as a barometer while renewal and we have a few intended renewals like Maignan, Theo. Are we ready for 10-15 m for renewals for these? In fine, Milan management is trying to avoid this precedent.

      1. They don’t pay then they are screwed.
Milan paid Lille 20 million to renew Leao. Inherently that should have came out of his agent’s pocket and Leao’s pocket since they broke off a contract with Sporting, not us and not Lille. Inherently, us paying that 20 million to resign him is in other words an agent fee. We bought that renewal so Lille wouldn’t go after Leao and his agent when they had to pay a fine.

Inherently, Maignan, Theo etc, their agents can and will ask for a significant resigning fee because we kept their assets at way bellow market value. They will make a commission on their transfer fee and new salary at their next club if we don’t pay them here. That’s the cost of doing business.

Thuram had agent fees Inter paid with a smile. Inherently, he was a big part of what pushed them that far ahead of everyone else. that 10 to 15 million and his salary paid itself off last year.

        1. What kind of joke is this comment ? ACM dont want to pay agent like kia 15m euro will be screwed? Dude , you dont know that are many player outside there ? It is not like zirkzee are best striker in the world and no striker can equal his quality so ACM need to pay 15m euro to kia. ACM can go buying scamacca/jonathan david/ arthem/guirassy etc . Comparing free transfer player like marcus thuram that make inter pay 10m euro agent fee ( below kia asked 15m euro ) with player like zirkzee that not free transfer are very funny dude. .For leao renewal if ACM not renew him you will comment everyday furlani out ,red bird out or other excuse while if ACM renew leao , you still blaming why ACM pay sporting 20m euro . Everything management do for leao renewal will be wrong in your eye

      2. That is just not true. You can pay the fee when you want to not when you don’t. Onboarding a starting striker isn’t the same as renewing your LB. One transfer has nothing to do with the other. The fact is simple maths and Kia knows it. After July 15th Zirkzee won’t go for less than 50 and then you’re likely to have an auction. At 55m it’s still probably the most affordable option for a top tier striker right now.
