Romano: Man Utd will pay above the €40m release clause for Zirkzee – the details

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan exited the race for Joshua Zirkzee earlier this week, and today, it seems his move to Manchester United has been finalised, with the Red Devils paying more than the release clause.

If anyone needed a reminder about the cruelty of the mercato, look no further than this saga. For months, Zirkzee has seemed destined to take the reigns that were left by Olivier Giroud, but now, that dream has passed.

Following a dispute with Kia Joorabchian, the Dutchman’s agent, over the commissions required to make a deal happen, Milan pulled out of the deal, and the Manchester outfit pounced.

In the Rossoneri’s eyes, they have stuck to their word about the club not being a payday and refused to pay the €15 million commission, even after attempts to change the workings of a deal, such as including Zirkzee’s brother in the negotiations.

As Fabrizio Romano (via Milan News) has reported, the announcement of the deal seems imminent now, with the report suggesting that the move has been completed. However, the Red Devils have paid over the odds for the striker.

Zirkzee’s release clause stood at €40m, but the report suggests that a higher fee has been paid, allowing Manchester United to use a different schedule of payments.

      1. There will not be a huge commission for him. They will give him some money for delivering the player but not 15M…

    1. Most of the time the agent comission won’t be included in the report.

Or maybe the giant comission was Kia way to conduct business with Premier League side, it’s been mentioned that he prefer Zirkzee to move to PL rather than staying at Italy. I can imagine the comission for United will be significantly less than for us, maybe less than 10m…

      1. It’s been reported to be around 8M I think. He did his job and delivered them the player so they will give him a little. But the power he gets from moving players to specific clubs (Man U, arsenal) is more valuable than money…

      2. That’s the thing. I don’t think his agent ever planned on selling him in Italy. I think the plan all along was to brown-nose his way to EPL clubs.

The sad thing is, United do not nurture their young talent.Zee Will likely flop in a year or two, and be back on the market.

        1. Imagine that, SAF was known to take care of his youngsters…They really downturned. Too bad. It was once a powerhouse.

        2. Seems like a different game with their new management. They seem like to get more focused on getting young talents (real ones, not the kind of money ball ones) this window, contrary to overpaid transfers we’ve seen for several seasons before. And they have

          – Kobbie Mainoo – 19
          – Alejandro Garnacho – 20
          – Rasmus Hojlund – 21
          – Amad Diallo – 20
          – Joshua Zirkzee – 23

          Potentials
          – De Ligt – 24
          – Manuel Ugarte – 23
          – Jarrad Branthwaite – 21
          – Leny Yoro – 18

          1. This! Man utd is prime for a resurgence. They’re clearing house and creating foundations.
All ppl do here is look at the league table from last year an pin narratives on the club. Also the won a major trophy last year and has one of the highest revenues of any club. But ppl bash them for who knows what.

      3. This. It was am inflated commission so the overall cost of the operation was prohibitive for most clubs outside the PL. Now that he gets his PL move, the commission comes down a bit. Doesn’t make it any less unsavory, but it is shrewd.

  1. I just hope ManU can officially confirm the deal asap. Quite annoying seeing news about this guy (and his awful agent) everyday. I already hope this guy won’t join Milan as soon as I learned about how much his agent asked for commission. Because until now, what he offers is just a potential from 1 season wonder (although it is debatable to call it as “wonder”). And it is like a ticking bomb even if Milan bought him, which will explode during contract renewal later on.

  2. Man United -Where young talent goes to die. Bad choice Zirkzee. SHouldn’t let your agent make your career choices for you.

  3. LOL

You mean our amazing management couldn’t think of structuring the deal like that for us so we could land Zirkzee???? lol

Embarassing. The truth is we had zero intention of getting this done. Commissions were an excuse. Same old same old w this cheap a$$ club. Discounts and expiring deals only – others need not apply.

    1. Bro… we never has any problem paying the release clause. We can paid it in one go, we don’t need to structure the deal with Bologna to pay in installment. We already informed them before 1 July, we will pay the release clause in full.

The problem is with commission. We aint paying 15m as a comission for 40m striker. That’s plain stupid.

And if the report about United will pay only 8m comission true (that’s still an absurd amount thou), then that’s almost half what Kia ask Milan to pay. 15m, I think that’s Kia way that he don’t want to sell his client to Serie A club – he want Premier League. End of story.

      1. Maybe one of the reasons they decided to make it as ‘installment’ was indeed because of the commission way. That way the initial cost (1st installment + enormous commission fee) wouldn’t be that high. All in all smart move by MU. Their new management seems better already.

        1. Thats what i thought too. I read MU trusted FP that they give kia fee 10m poundsterling infront thats why they spread the payment 3 years. While ACM only thinking to pay 55m euro in one single pay

        2. Still that means they still pay the enormous agent comission. That’s the prohibitive things here all along – it’s not about the total amount…

For example if the clause is 50m and Kia want 5m only for commission, I believe Milan will buy Zirkzee. But it’s not.

15m agent comission is crazy no matter what anyone say.

          1. World is working differently.
If we want to compete, some things we need to change ourself too.
No matter how much commission it is, we should check ourself does 55m for zirkzee is good price or not or are we able to afford/does he fit our system?

When he is our first choice as announced by management, how can morata replace him.
It’s absolutely crazy or we are still looking for less money transfer?
Rather than spending 5x20m players, 2×40 who can suit our system are better.
