Romano: The truth about the chances of Icardi joining Milan this summer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were offered the chance to sign Mauro Icardi from rivals Inter during the summer transfer window, according to a report.

It became apparent through statements from those at Inter that Icardi was not considered part of Antonio Conte’s plans, and as such the Argentine would have to find a new club.

His wife and agent Wanda Nara was tasked with the, and La Repubblica (via MilanNews.it) even claims on the final day of the mercato that Icardi would have seriously considered joining Milan in order to stay in the city.

Then, Wanda came out earlier this week and confirmed it was on the table: “There was the possibility of bringing Mauro to Milan. Going to France was the most difficult choice for me,” she told Tiki Taka.

“Obviously, a choice like Milan would have been more comfortable, but a team like PSG is the best choice for his career.”

An exclusive for Calciomercato.com from Fabrizio Romano claims that ‘full chaos’ broke loose during the last three days of the market, during which Wanda frantically tried to find her husband a new club.

She apparently tried to offer Mauro to Milan on loan with an obligation to buy already fixed in place, however the report claims that the reaction was ‘cold’.

The Rossoneri leadership ‘immediately understood that it would have been pointless’ given the complicated timing of the operation as well as the obstacle of convincing Inter to sell to a rival.
