Romano: Work in progress over Donnarumma’s renewal – the truth regarding Chelsea and Real Madrid’s interest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face a race against time to secure the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma as three of Europe’s top clubs are circling, a report claims.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest for Calciomercato.com, the feeling is optimistic that Milan can agree a new deal with Donnarumma hence the media silence that his agent Mino Raiola has chosen to adopt. Work is in progress to try and extent his contract beyond the current expiration of June 2021, but now we must get to the heart of the negotiations.

In terms of clubs interested if talks were to collapse, the report mentions Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid as clubs monitoring the situation, while Juventus have also never denied interest.

Chelsea did sign Mendy from Rennes, so no investment in a new goalkeeper is expected. Meanwhile, the feeling of the clubs interested is that Donnarumma really wants to stay at Milan, and the Rossoneri management are also convinced of that fact.

However, to get him to sign a new deal the salary will have to exceed €6.5million per year, and Donnarumma is worth an exception to the rule.
