AC Milan are still seeking some extra cover at centre-back ahead of the new season but the answer may already be in the squad, a report suggests.
As reported by Radio Rossonera, youngster Davide Bartesaghi could actually be the extra body in the centre of the defence that Stefano Pioli is looking for.
He started the 2005-born defender in the game against Novara on Sunday morning and he put in an impressive display that caught the eye of those watching.
He has more often been viewed as a left-back, but he can play in the centre and Pioli may be wise to train him more in that position.
This would mean that Milan do not need to spend more money on a new defender and can focus their funds on a striker and/or a replacement for Fode Ballo-Toure when he leaves.
Bartesaghi is naturally left-footed which is always an attractive trait for a central defender as there are not many around.
Barthesaghi is not ready, and I doubt he will ever be. He is too slow.
If he is too slow why does he play as full-back? If he can play as full-back, he is fast enough to be center back.
Ask Pioli. I have seen Bartesaghi a lot in the primaveramatches, and to me he does not seem good enough. But of course, that is just my guess. I belive more in Simic.
Unless we can get Segio Ramos no defender will be ready for Pioli, his job is not just to be expecting error free defenders, he also has a job to develop the ones in the club. I’d say we are covered in the defense department. We are here looking for a deputy to Theo while one left the club last season and is worth 20mill now. Dig that
Yes, I can’t get over Kerkez not getting a minute…Big fail by Pioli…
Unreasonable comments. It wouldn’t have been enough for Kerkez to be Theo’s backup. He wanted serious playing time. How do you bench Theo for 50% of the games because an 18 year old demands to play? Theo is a top 5 LB. He wasn’t even willing to go on loan, pushing for a permanent transfer. The mistake was not negotiating for a stronger sell on fee.
Same situation developing with Bozzolan
Sergio Ramos is overrated and guarantee to be getting sent off and score countless own goals. He only good at scoring winning goals.
Barthesaghi and Simic looked good in preseason and can really help given Kjaer’s physical struggles. No one is expecting them to start, just occasional covers for the center back and left back positions.
Thats an idea too and it fulfills the home grown requirement.
At one point we have to give our youngsters some serious opportunity.
