Sacchi believes ‘patience is needed’ after Juventus defeat: “For goodness sake”

After the defeat to Juventus at the weekend, Arrigo Sacchi has commented on the current aspirations for AC Milan and the need to remain patient.

This season, as a whole, is one to forget for Milanisti. Of course, there have been beautiful moments threaded throughout it, the wins against Real Madrid and the double against Inter. However, the wider picture is bleak.

Milan, for the longest time, have been sup-bar, and their moments of brilliance can be matched with extended spells of frustration. Despite changing head coaches from Paulo Fonseca to Sergio Conceicao, the frustrations remain and the Rossoneri must give the process time.

Rushing things will only halt progress in the long run, so whilst the Diavolo are effectively back to square one, they may have a better base from this position, even if there are going to be bumps on the way.

Today, Sacchi spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the Juventus defeat and the wider picture, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Juve deserved to win against Milan and the Bianconeri seem to me to be on the rise, it must also be underlined that for these two teams, the Scudetto race is compromised. Anything can happen, for goodness sake, but it seems to me that Napoli and Inter are travelling at a much higher speed.

“At this point, therefore, both AC Milan and Juve have the obligation to continue their path in the Champions League: it will not be easy, but they have the possibility. It will not be easy, but they have a chance. And then they must at all costs achieve qualification for the next edition of the cup, because this means bringing money into the clubs’ safe.”

“For Milan, the story is a little different. It has made two revolutions in the space of a few months: first with Fonseca and now with Conceiçao. Patience is needed and, above all, the club has a duty to support the work of the new coach.

“Milan, essentially, depends on two players: Leao and Theo Hernandez. When these go, the whole team turns. Otherwise, there is trouble. It’s up to Conceiçao to keep the two on the ball so that we can rise in the standings and achieve Champions League qualification.”

  1. The team is regressing and that is the biggest headache right now. If the performance alis there and the goals are just not coming then it would be easier to be patient. But with the current state of affairs patience is a difficult thing to muster right now…more nauseating if you ask me.

  2. It’s not patience that is needed. It’s depth in midfield and a reliable center forward. But above all an actual Sporting Director with some fukcing common sense and a vision…

  3. It’s so clear Napoli and Inter are now their own group. Thought Atalanta would have kept pace but their pace dropped the a game or two before the Super Cup. CDK form drop has also coincided with their decline in form too and they didn’t look the same team in the Super Cup unfortunately. However if this is just to rest the team and they can push in the winter they can still come back.
Then after that it’s the who’s who of coaching revolutions from Lazio all the way down to us… Baroni, Motta, Palladino, Italiano. All new coaches to their teams and all gambles in various ways (including us no less). Don’t forget Ranieri has Roma starting to make a comeback.
It’s interesting the league table is indicative of the quality of coaching… Conte/Inzaghi/Gasp….then the rest..
You get what you pay for.

    1. I still believe Motta is good. Just a hiccup with the juve squad this season.

At least I would take their place on the table over ours. That’s for sure.

      1. I would as well. Extremely solid defensively is always the basis in Serie A. I actually think our team was more suited to his style of play than Juve. Juve is more rugged while we had the guile and flair that was reflective of that Bologna team last year.

  4. Is it just me or wasn’t Juve very good? Sometimes the opposition makes it too hard. It’s not just a matter of going into Juventus stadium and dictating your terms. There are teo teams and we had a tough time. Hopefully we can succeed against lesser teams instead. We obviously have the height to win sometimes. Just not all the time against the big teams. This season we need more wins against the smaller sides to actually climb the table. Many of the teams above us are starting to struggle too. Hupefully the next part of the season can be Milans. Still many points to compete for.
