Sacchi urges Milan to ‘wake up quickly’ but backs management over ‘serious’ project

By Oliver Fisher -

Former head coach Arrigo Sacchi has urged AC Milan to ‘wake up’ after a quiet January transfer window during which the management chose not to strengthen the squad.

Milan head into the derby on Saturday against Inter knowing they are in a situation where a defeat against their city rivals would effectively end the pursuit of a Scudetto, but a win would open the fight right back up as there would then be just a one-point gap between the teams though Inter have a game in hand.

While the Rossoneri’s only real move on the market was to replace Pietro Pellegri – who had his loan terminated – with the 18-year-old centre-forward Marko Lazetic, Inter decided to bolster their options by signing Robin Gosens from Atalanta and Felipe Caicedo from Genoa.

Sacchi spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the Rossoneri’s current moment after the closing of the January transfer market, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Milan are a serious club. The managers look to the balance sheet. Maldini and Massara have been very good at choosing young players or those who had to relaunch: you have to trust them,” he said.

“Lazetic is a guy everyone talks about well. People must understand that this is a serious policy in a country that has very little to do with it. If you can, spend, otherwise you get by with ideas. Milan needs to wake up quickly, because in the last few matches it has not been the usual Milan full of enthusiasm, courage, humility, a spirit of sacrifice.”

  1. lmao , u dont buy anyone, players keep going from club for free , and everyone think u have some wisdom plans and talk about serious project because u have firm stance hahaha elliot is playing mindgames with everyone

    1. What You want them to do? Like barca and waste over 250m€ on players that will sit on bench? (Coutinho,Dembele).

We have the best and most promising Milan squad in a decade. We have good economy, the team has been in top 4 of serie a for 2 years and that was a veeeery long time ago that happened.

      Tell us what you want?

I tell you this, stop complaining and be happy we are in top 4 again and not buying/loaning Essien, Kevin Constant, Matri type of players anymore.

Forza Milan i am happy and the Milan squad looks happy and plays great football.

Stop being unhappy and enjoy for christ sake.
