Saelemaekers delighted to confirm Milan move: “It was what my family and I wanted”

Alexis Saelemaekers has expressed his delight at securing a permanent move to AC Milan, claiming that it is what he wanted all along.

The Belgian wide man arrived at San Siro in the January transfer window on a loan deal until the end of the season, with an option to buy inserted in favour of the Rossoneri.

Milan have released a statement on their official website confirming that they have used their option to buy, with the figure widely reported to be €3.5million in addition to the paid loan costing €3.5m – so a total of €7m.

He has not had many opportunities to showcase his talent, but the 21-year-old did look dynamic off the bench in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Roma.

Speaking to Sky Italia before Wednesday’s game against SPAL, he said (via MilanNews): “It was what my family and I wanted, I worked to make it happen. It happened and I am very happy.”

Speaking to Milan TV, he added: “It is a very important day for me. It is something I strongly wanted. I am very happy for my family who constantly supports me. It is a very important day for me and I am very happy to be part of this team.”

On the game against SPAL: “I think we will have to confirm the performance against Roma. We had a great game and we gained confidence also in view of the next games for example against Lazio or Juventus that we will face in the coming weeks.”

On Ibrahimovic’s return to the team: “Ibrahimovic is the strongest player on the team, his experience and talent will help us face this game and the rest of the season.

“He has come back really well from the injury and can make a great contribution today.”
