Saelemaekers’ message after Bologna move: “Milan will always be in my heart”

By Euan Burns -

Alexis Saelemaekers has written a farewell message on Instagram following his loan move to Bologna from AC Milan which could be made permanent next year, a report claims.

The Belgian midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan throughout the summer thanks to the arrivals of Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze.

There is very little scope for him to get minutes in the first team this season, along with Junior Messias, hence why both have been loaned out and the deals could be permanent in a year’s time.

Saelemaekers arrived from Anderlecht and he made 140 appearances for Milan, becoming a useful utility player for Pioli in the past few seasons.

At Bologna, he should find more playing time at a club that plays attractive and attacking football under Thiago Motta.

Marking his exit, Saelemaekers made his strong feelings for Milan and the fans known.

“I have never been one for words, I have always enjoyed demonstrating more than talking, but I owe you a few words. Thank you for these years together, I have grown both professionally and humanly. I have worn this jersey with pride and respect and I have always tried to give 100 per cent for myself and for you. For you fans who have always made me feel at home and have always shown your warmth. Thanks also to the club that has allowed me to experience all this!
I still don’t know if it will be goodbye or just farewell, but regardless of what the future holds for me.
Milan will always be in my heart!”

  1. Decent player who got an unfair amount of flak on these boards. That said, the midfield signings we’ve made in the summer probably mean that he wouldn’t have had much playing time for Milan. Good luck to him in his future career.

  2. He could have been a good bench option for the RB position. Would always remember his goal against Napoli. It’s truly a pity man, if only he was consistent. Good luck to him in his future ahaead.

  3. Classy. TY Salad. Great player as a back-up utility player/spot starter capable of playing multiple positions. Always worked hard. I would have liked to keep him but if he wasn’t happy and wanted the chance to start then best he was given the opportunity to leave. Good luck

  4. Best of wishes to him and hope he becomes a great success in bologna but im a bit saddened to see him leave even though it makes sense after all the new additions for the right wing,
