Samardzic reflects on decision to reject Milan move: “I was too young”

By Oliver Fisher -

Lazar Samardzic has admitted that he did have the chance to join AC Milan in the past but he decided he was not ready to make the move to Italy.

It was widely reported that the Rossoneri were keen on signing the 21-year-old back when he was with Hertha BSC and had barely broken into the first team, but he ended up joining RB Leipzig and then Udinese.

A source close to the negotiation confirmed to SempreMilan during the most recent summer window that there was ‘interest from Milan’ and that there had been ‘some talks’, but nothing ever materialised and a move to Inter also collapsed.

Samardzic spoke to SportWeek about his past but also about his future and if he feels ready to make the leap to a big team, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Yes, of course. I’m ready for a big club. I’m 21 years old… in two years at I will be even more so, mentally and physically. On the pitch I have to improve in attacking spaces,” he said.

“Saying no to Milan? I was too young. I didn’t feel positive sensations and I preferred to stay for a while longer close to home.”
