The future of AC Milan is of course heavily weighted around on-field success, but there is also a heavy emphasis from the current ownership group on the future and growing revenues.
Today’s edition of Il Giorno (via Calciomercato.com) reports that Gerry Cardinale’s aim is to further the growth of a club that has once again become one of the fastest growing brands in recent years, thanks also to the relationships developed by the American ownership.
The idea of consolidating and strengthening the club obviously also includes the project to build a new stadium, with the idea of San Donato Milanese becoming increasingly strong and concrete after the failure of the new San Siro project.
The Councillor for Public Works for San Donato – Massimiliano Mistretta – spoke to the paper about the plans for a new state of the art home in the south east of the city.
“Within a few weeks, the AC Milan club could present a project. The interlocution between our Council and the football club is open, Milan’s interest in San Donato is real and concrete,” he said.
As was outlined by La Gazzetta dello Sport recently, Milan’s plan is for a 65-70,000-seat stadium to be completed by 2029 which would also include a major change to the road system in the surrounding areas.
As part of the works, there would be the creation of two elevated cycle-pedestrian walkways to help fans reach the stadium, something Mistretta also commented on
“These are hypotheses that will have to be part of a more overall reorganisation of traffic, to be decided in agreement with Autostrade, RFI and supra-municipal bodies within specific discussion tables,” he said.
